KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP)—The Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League have fired coach Todd Haley less than a year after he led the team to the AFC West division title.

The injury-ravaged Chiefs dropped to 5-8 after Sunday’s 37-10 loss the New York Jets.

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said Monday the move is “best for the future of the Chiefs,” who lost several of their stars to season-ending injuries, including quarterback Matt Cassel and running back Jammal Charles.

Haley leaves with a 19-27 record in nearly three years at his first NFL head coaching job. The Chiefs won the AFC West last season with a 10-6 record.

The Chiefs are planning a news conference later Monday.

Honestly I am a bit surprised as this since his team was decimated with injuries. I questioned him as a coach as I don't think he has really grasped how to do it just yet. Plus he really looked bad once Weis left. They look to be trying but just void of depth in terms of quality talent at a lot of positions.

i always thought he sucked as a coach. He seems very moody and always takes offense to what other coaches do. Way to conservative and has no killer instinct. would love to see fisher get the chance having lived in tn when he was coach

Todd Haley Explains Refusal To Substitute Ricky Stanzi Over Tyler Palko

Dec 12 7:25a by Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs are in a tough spot at this point in the NFL season which means that Todd Haley is in a tough spot. There have been some signs of life in a miserable season where the Chiefs are 5-8, but it’s also clear that some major changes have to be made. One that fans were chanting for on Sunday during a 37-10 loss to the New York Jets was a call for another quarterback — rookie Ricky Stanzi. But it was a move Todd Haley was unwilling to make.
“We just felt that the way the game was, we didn’t think that would be a good position to put Ricky in,” head coach Todd Haley said after the game. When explaining he noted the conditions playing against the Jets in the crowd at MetLife.
“The guy that gives us the best chance to win will play, because we’re playing to win,” Haley said. “In a game like today where the score gets to where it was, I just don’t think that’s the best position to give someone their first action in the NFL on the road.”

local radio said the final blow was haley ripped bowe a new one at a practice and then bowe went to peoli to complain. peoli told haley to not do it again basically because they were trying to sign bowe to an extension. haley then went out at next practice pulled the same shit and just changed the adjectives. they are also saying peoli will stick with cassel and look to hire josh mcdaniels because he is from the new england family peoli was a part of. again this is all from local radio i guess we will see.

Haley was close to resigning before the last game, no surprise here. The guys is snakebit. They get Orton who could have given them some glimmer of hope he hurts his finger on the very 1st play they put him in on!

Just isnt meant to be....You know he's frustrated if he thinks Bowe is ever going to block somebody.....lol

i don't know where you get he was going to resign,we all would have welcomed that but he stuck around just to ruin our team and cause more misery.the guy is a head case and don't belong trying to control a football team.

i was calling for this weeks ago and im sorry it took so long,i mean what head coach would hire a OC who's 72 years old with no experience before doing the job....fucking todd haley....don't let the door hit you in the ass, just go

Honestly though, he was lucky to squeeze 5 wins out of this team. Playoffs last year. Obviously it wasn't his performance that cost him the job.

he won his games last year against the weakest teams possible and it was still a struggle.believe me he had nothing to do with the wins this year either,he almost blew some of the games we won.he is a piece of shit and thats the bottom line.some players also must go,ty jackson, glen dorsey, donald washington, etc, all are lazy and horrible and some others also,im not even happy with cassel,id rather draft a QB this year and let him go or be a backup.

Stanzi should definitely be getting the nod the rest of the way.

Starting your first game against the Packers is probably not such a good idea, in fact, it certainly would not be(if he did, his over/under on INT's would be 2.5 over -160)................my guess is he will be the starter for the Chiefs final two games.

wait a minute,..what does he have to lose, the chiefs are not going anywhere so why not start him against arguably the best team in football.he has to get his feet wet and we(chiefs fans)are tired of this lousy palko out there faking to be a QB.by starting stanzi at least you will see what you have going into next season and you can decide if you need to draft a QB or not.believe me im not sold on cassel either but i think pioli is so i guess i lose on that argument, lol

Stanzi belongs in Arena Football....LOL
why's that? he was one of the top QBs in college last year. Doubt he will ever amount to anything but no reason he shouldn't get some starts for KC the rest of the year. That palko kid looks like a girl when he throws.
