THE STORY: The Pittsburgh Steelers could be without two key players for Monday night’s matchup with the host San Francisco 49ers. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with a severe high ankle sprain that has kept him from practicing through Thursday. Being without the two-time Super Bowl-winning QB is not an appealing thought for the Steelers, particularly when going up against a defense that has surrendered the fewest points in the league this season. Pittsburgh LB James Harrison is expected to miss the contest after he was suspended one game for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy. The Niners have wrapped up the NFC West, but have lost two of their last three games.
TV: ESPN, 8:30 p.m. ET. LINE: 49ers -2.5, O/U OFF
ABOUT THE STEELERS (10-3): Pittsburgh has won four straight to remain in a four-way tie for the best record in the AFC. The Steelers have been dominant defensively since their bye week, allowing a total of 19 points in their last three games. They could be tested without Harrison, who has 8.0 sacks despite missing four games due to injury. Roethlisberger played the second half of a 14-3 win over Cleveland despite the ankle injury, but said the pain feels worse this week. He has not missed a game because of injury since December 2009. Charlie Batch will start if Roethlisberger can’t go.
ABOUT THE 49ERS (10-3): San Francisco blew a 12-point second-half lead in a 21-19 loss at Arizona last week. Stud MLB Patrick Willis sat out his second straight game with a hamstring injury. The Niners have struggled to find the end zone, getting 10 field goals from David Akers in the past three games. RB Frank Gore ripped off five straight 100-yard games earlier in the season, but has been dealing with injuries and has not surpassed 88 yards in his last five. QB Alex Smith is coming off one of his worst games, failing to complete half his passes and throwing for 175 yards.
EXTRA POINTS:
1. San Francisco has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 35 contests and is the first team to not surrender a rushing TD in the first 13 games.
2. Pittsburgh has won its last six appearances on Monday Night Football.
3. This will mark only the third meeting between the teams in nine seasons. The 49ers hold a 10-9 all-time series edge.

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 550px" class=Lhead2 border=0 cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=2 align=center><TBODY><TR><TD class=Lhead1>PITTSBURGH at SAN FRANCISCO </TD></TR><TR><TD class=Ldata>Pittsburgh didn't get the cover last week in their 14-3 home win over Cleveland as -14 point chalks. Ben Roethlisberger played through an injured ankle in the second half to help the Steelers hold on for the win against the struggling Browns. In the second quarter, Roethlisberger was sacked with under six minutes to play. He got his leg twisted under him on the sack and was in obvious pain as he grabbed the ankle and put little weight on it as he was helped off the field and into the locker room. During halftime, x-rays were taken in the locker room and came up negative and he came back out to play for the start of the third quarter. Roethlisberger finished the game 16-of-21 passing with 280 yards, two scores and an interception. Antonio Brown had five catches for 151 yards and a score while Jerricho Cotchery caught the other score. Pittsburgh (10-3) amassed 416 yards of offense, helping them overcome three turnovers.

San Francisco comes off a 21-19 loss at Arizona as -4 point road favorites. Frank Gore ran for 72 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while Alex Smith threw for 175 yards on 18-of-37 passing. David Akers kicked four field goals for the 49ers (10-3), who won the NFC West the week before with a 26-0 victory over the Rams and may have been caught a little flat. Gore ran 37-yards for a TD to give the 49ers a 19-7 lead early in the second half and passed 1,000 yards rushing for the fifth time in his career on that run, but he didn't do much damage after that. San Francisco was outgained 325-233 and only converted 3-of-17 on third down. Akers has five games this season in which he has kicked four or more field goals, matching the most such games in a single season since the merger.

This is the first meeting since 2007 when the Steelers posted a 37-16 home win over the Niners as -10 point favorites. San Francisco 24-9 ATS when playing on Monday night, 9-0 ATS following an upset loss and 7-1 ATS at home in December. As for Pittsburgh, the Steelers are 0-11 ATS on the road in December when facing a foe off a SU and ATS loss and 3-8 ATS off a SU win. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

13-12 Steelers. Could go either way. Under is the best bet IMO. Rooting for Niners of course!

In a 2009 MNF game against the Cardinals, I decided I wanted to throw down some prop bets. Hit 75-1 when Allen Rossum returned the opening kickoff for a TD. Trying to decide if I want to try the bet again since the 49ers are back on MNF.

Nope, just on whether or not the opening kickoff went for a TD. I was just waiting for a flag to bring it back... Couldn't believe it actually hit.

Wow... Nice hit... One would think those odds should be even higher when you stop & think about it.

Yup. I've bet it probably 20 times and only hit once. I should have taken the yes at +25000 on "Will the Monday Night Football game be delayed because of a blown transformer?".
