I guess you go from a 15" laptop to a 10" netbook mini-laptop, now these tablet things....I guess a laptop without the hinge thing for the screen ?

I don't know about the reader thing part of it.... ?

I'm homeless ( sold home a month ago) and living on my Stepdaughter's couch for now ( but have 6 figures in the bank). She wants this for X-mas, we buy the food and treat for eating out almost daily. I do work around the house like emptying the cat (3) boxes and yardwork, etc.

I want to book South, bitch wife wants to stay here a bit longer....even though she hates cold. She wants it to be 90 degrees inside, nobody can stand to be in that.

sorry for the tangent, but got the Nook at Walmart for $199, actually 10% less than that....wife is an expert bitch and always gets 10% more off....

Nook is the e-reader. You buy books and read them on it. The Kindle Fire for 200 is actually a little better i think but pretty much the same thing.

nook is an overpriced e reader.. BUT the advantage is that on the nook color u can put android honeycomb on it and have a fully functional tablet :D

the kindlefire is getting bad reviews because it doesnt handle tablet stuff as good as being able to load android on a nook color ^ just for extra info

Just blew through local Barnes & Noble this evening on a last minute gift buying run and I'm pretty sure they're selling that Nook for just 99 bones

would she find a low-end lap-top to be better ( not that much more expensive) , or is this thing like a computer, but just smaller ?

yeah, thats what mom wants to a Nook....i didnt even know they had them at walmart....i thought u had to get them at barnes and noble, thought they were an exclusive thing there...figured you could get the kindle at walmart......

I think im getting the 99.00 one, cuz she basically ONLY wants it to read with....she isnt going to be using apps and such.....they say the nook is better than kindle, if you are ONLY reading books....

Yea nook is perfect for reading. Color one makes it a little better than just the normal nook. Got one for my mom last year and she wanted to return it instantly because she couldn't figure it out. 2 Weeks later she wouldn't put it down. Nook/kindle are all good for these companies too because you buy so many books than you normally would since they are at your fingertips

You guys ever heard of the show Firefly? Big cult following , great show, was on fox about 10 years ago but only for a season. sci fi futuristic show, they had props on the show that look like ipads way before it came out. pretty cool. however, i think steve jobs had the idea for the ipad a really long time ago, before the technology had caught up with the concept.

Doug, I dont know if anyone answered your question..

If your daughter wants a Nook... get her a nook NOT laptop..... She wants an Ereader... there is different ones... as already discussed here... esstentially, is a device that allows you to download books and read them from there with ease..... Im sure the posters here can guide you to the right model....

GL and Merry Christmas
