One of my good friends, like a guy that was in my wedding a month ago, house burnt down.. no insurance... It's unlivable.

Everything inside is ruined.

He's a great, loyal friend. He grew up in the hood, and actually thats where his house was... but he was like the good guy that everyone could depend on. There was always people staying at his house cuz they had no where else to go... He's always done so much for everyone else..

man. I want to help him.

I want to have a webpage that can accept donation. Will someone help me create a graphic for the page. Any other ideas of things I can do??

I don't care if its even one of those "free" webpages, where I can put a Paypal donation button. But if you think it will be more efficent to buy a domain, I don't mind at all.. just let me know...

He would kill me if he knew I was collecting donations. He was poor before, cannot imagine trying to start over. He is going to need the help whether he wants it or not...

Man, this is heartbreaking. He's the only person I know that had a house, free and clear.. it was inheritated. It is a tiny, maybe 800 sqft house... but it was his home... everyone else would of had insurance... of course it has to happen to him... :>(

One my first questions would be, when I get these donations should I give him a list of everyone that donated? or no? should it include amount?

I would say no. IMO, I don't want/need the people to know that I donated or how much. That makes it seem like it is more about the person donating and getting credit for it, which I don't think it should be about. Man if I wouldn't have just spent a shit load of money donating to local charities I would throw down on this. Money is running tight this time of year especially with the 10k or so I am going to have to pay in on taxes at the first of the year. I might be able to pitch in a little in a few weeks. So sorry to hear about your friend, especially this close to Christmas. Hopefully the community will help out immensely for what sounds like a stand up guy.

I wish the local news would of covered the fire, sure that would of helped.. however he is so prideful, its going to be hard to get him to take it regardless how much he needs it... probbly the most prideful dude i've met.. I know he has almost 0 family support... this dude has the worst luck I know...

Defying, just a little comment here. I would SERIOUSLY consider running this story by the news. My wife is an anchor for NBC and if this happened here in our town she would love to be approached about doing a story on it. They are always looking for human interest/stories that touch the heart. I would call up to the news station and ask who you need to speak with about it. Hell they might even put you on the news. This is a good way to get the story out there and get donors/companies involved. There are A LOT of people out there with money that are willing to help, but if they don't know they can't. I would think if you really wanted to help him, this might just be the best thing you can do besides setting up the webpage.

if it was any of my other friends, i would, but he would hate the attention and even the charity associated with it... Cool to know that about your wife.. in small citys (which I live in) those anchors are local celebrities... Im gonna try to take him to lunch in the next couple days and see his plans to see if I can find more areas I can help

Agree with above. But if you're sold on doing it yourself, wordpress would be the way to go - the pages can be created so quickly.

He doesn't have to know it was you though. Sooner or later I bet you money he will swallow his pride and realize he is going to need help to recover, and hell there is NOTHING wrong about that.

I would hit every gas station in town and ask to put a little bucket at the cash register with a very quick blurb about the guy, might not be much but all that change will add up

The last thing I want to do is sound skeptical, but it's impossible to know who people really are on this site, and I would like some documentation of the fire- should be a newsclipping or something online. IF you could post that, or even PM me, the reason I ask is that it is the holidays and it seems like your friend is a good person, and I would strongly consider donating something.
