I've always donated a bag of clothes or whatever here and there and never tried to get the tax benefit.....but this year i have a whole bunch of clothes, tons of toys, tons of baby stuff, kitchen stuff, yard stuff just a bunch of shit i need to get rid of.

i've never donated for tax purposes, so lets say i donated 15-20 bags of clothes, toys, kitchen stuff, yard stuff etc......how would i go about getting the deduction on my taxes? and is it even worth the time it will take to do it?

It is worth the time. ON turbo tax you can itemize it and already has the prices in there. The process is pretty easy.

Well first thing is that you have to itemize on your tax return. AND you have to exceed the level of $3000 I think. I cant remember the exact amount, but I do itemize because I have to itemize all of my poker losses against my poker winnings

I donate my stuff and write it off for 250 bucks, buy it when they put it out for sale for 15 dollars, and donate it again, and write it off for another 250.

I usually just bring it down to the local church. I'm not interested in getting any tax deduction for it.

I believe TurboTax totals the price of all your deductions (business expense and travel, etc., not just donations) and compares it with the standard deduction. It suggests you use whichever is higher between itemized and standard.

If you have enough deductions that are more than the standard TurboTax will suggest you itemize. If not, it will suggest you take the standard.
