Do people from older generations get sick when they see the current generation waste so much time on videogames

I'm from the current gen but I stopped playing game regularly years ago cause they just became boring but I see people bragging about how they spent 130 hours playing Skyrim or saying how they spent the whole weekend playing Call of Duty.

This is pathetic. One of my co-workers comes in every day and gives the update on Skyrim, the latest game he's playing, and how he's a level 42 elf etc etc and I honestly wanna get the guy and sleep him.

What the hell is a matter people? What the hell happened to real men? Now all any "man" wants is to come home so he can play mindless drivel.

King,

Other than Diablo II, which I was addicted to about 10 years ago, I've pretty much left the video gaming up the kids (10, 6 + 3). I picked up Skylanders last night when the kids went to bed, and couldn't stop playing the game. The graphics just completly and utterly blow away the graphics from the games we had as a kid (think Apple II+). The graphics and the level of gameplay is mind-boggling. I played from 8pm last night until 3am. When I looked at the stats, the game said I completed approx 4% of the game. 7 HOURS of non-stop game-play and I'm only at 4% complete. Holy crap. That's insane.

I'm worried, as Diablo III comes out on 2/1/12. I can't image how bad I"m going to be hooked on that game after just seeing the beta in action. I wonder how bad I'm going to be, as that games just looks phenomenal, and I am such a Dungeons & Dragons freak. This game is as close to getting into D&D as can be. The only way to get more into D&D is to become an actual Elf. Fvck me, I'm going to end up ruining my life.

I dunno maybe I just don't like the guy at work and he pisses me off but hearing grown men discuss their Elf character learning a magic spell just makes me cringe.

I'm over 50 and I still play video games. When I was younger I played pinball games and pool. We had a pinball machine in our house along with a pool table.

I still ran around the neighborhood with the neighborhood kids and came home when it was time to eat and when it got dark. Other than that my parents seldom knew where I was because they could trust that I was somewhere nearby. I grew up in a small town in the Midwest though.

It must be tough for parents to not let their kids out and not know where they are. I'm afraid the kids don't get out and burn up as much energy as they did when I was young.

I guess come Feb I'm going to have to keep my Level 1 ~ Level 99 Magic User a secret from ya then King.

Hell, it's not bad enough we spend countless hours here already. When D3 kicks in, my life will more than likely be ruined.

Unless, maybe I can get you to convert and join the good fight and play video games with us.

Woot. I can see it now, smoking man carrying a +3 blade of fire, a virtual killing machine .....

Did a quick repair of your intended wording above, after which I confess there's not much in the above post with which I (51 yrs old) can argue

OKAY, I think I can get it with a guy like Baccy

You're putting a whole lot of focus into your business operation 5 (or is it 6 to 7) days a week from early to late. So taking a few hours to detach from Real World can be helpful to your brain

Rx and a couple other (legal based) web blogs/forums do that for me.

Not sure if raping the guy is the answer...

this is the reason why people are so overweight. get outside and enjoy the real world.
here you see kids playing with each other all the time instead of holed up in the house playing video games and watching tv.
you can tell from the smiles and laughter that they are much happier.

I gave up gaming when I became the guy who needed a vehicle or sniping position. Now give me the joystick and the big red button and I'll do some damage.

played my first game from beginning to end in over 5 years this week.

uncharted 1, and im halfway done with uncharted 2 right now.

I bought a PS3 when they 1st came out for over 400 bucks.

Bought one game with it. Played it for 10mins and never played another game again until last week.

If not for the blueray which I also rarely use, it would have been a complete waste of money.

But I did enjoy uncharted.

I don't think old people get irate at the younger generation playing video games...they just can't relate to them. Technology has had such an exponential explosion in the last few decades that video gaming means something totally different than just playing something mindless like pong for hours on end. Older ppl had nothing at all like that when they were growing up.

I'm in my mid-30s and still have a PS3. I'll go through phases of playing daily for a week or two, then not playing at all for 2-3 months. Just don't have the time with grad school going on. But video games nowadays aren't just about shooting down asteroids...some of them really force you to think through them strategically.

I do think the older generation perceives the younger generation to be lazy and spoiled. Everything younger people want is a few keystrokes away. Hell, when I was in high school and had to write a report, I'd get out the giant encyclopedia and hope to find enough information on that topic in one book. Nowadays, you can go on the internet and probably find any school report on any topic you want and have all the info given to you. In other words, the older gen thinks the younger gen doesn't appreciate how to work hard for something. And maybe they're right.

I would like to introduce lawn darts to the younger generation and let them text each other while playing.

PLayed halo3 non stop for a while. Never got as addicted as a lot of people but i was good at it, my friends all played, and there wasn't much else to around my town. Still play sports all the time but still probably play video games 30 mins a day or something. You guys should try out NHL2k12. Pretty fun

Not a very big fan of video games, and the are definitely making youth more lazy however they have come along way from the just keep tapping X or Y games.

Maybe it improves eye hand coordination?

I'm 42 and still play. There are few valid forms of entertainment this inexpensive. I paid $60 for Bad Company 2 and played it for almost 400 hours. As long as you keep it in perspective it's much better than vegging out watching TV.
