Howard Stern personally calls Twitter fans on New Year's Eve

Howard Stern wished some fans a happy new year with a personal call.

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper
Howard Stern fans who follow the radio host on Twitter had a chance to get up close and personal with the King of All Media on New Year's Eve.
Stern tweeted this message to his followers Saturday night: "Beth and I are drunk dialing. What's your phone number?"
Stern and wife Beth apparently followed through on that promise for the next few hours, at least according to Stern's Twitter feed, where he would tweet about who he spoke to. In numerous cases, he didn't reach the person, but tweeted that he left them a voicemail message.
One fan tweeted that he adopted his two cats because of advice from Stern, and Stern tweeted "Just called to hear about the cats. Got voicemail."

An equal opportunity pet lover, apparently, Stern also called two fans who mentioned their dogs, including one who said that he and his wife were staying home with a dog who'd just returned from the ICU.
To another, Stern tweeted "sorry to interrupt the video games," and to another, he said "Drinking beer alone. What happened? You clammed up on me."
Some of the fans then reported on their calls via Twitter. The aforementioned video gamer wrote "Howard Stern just called me! This new year rules already!"
Another lucky fan tweeted after her call: "OMG! It was like the best thing ever! I started crying after we hung up!"
When he was finished, Stern tweeted "Just made my last call. Going to bed. Wishing everyone a happy new year. If u get a call after this...it's not me."

Howard Stern

By the way. Great speaking to so many of you. Amazing how great the conversations were. Really great.

The show isn't as great as it once was, but it is still by far the best comedy radio show on the air. The competition is horrible.

He still gets millions of people listen to him. His fanbase is pretty big so there are a lot of people who would be thrilled to get a call from him.

Opie and Anthony with Jimmy Norton, and the late Patrice Oneal was/is better

Ouch....what did he do to you? Sounds like you personally hate the guy.

I've been listening to them for a while now and they don't have 1/4 of the audience Howard has. Howard was just in more markets plus their show doesn't appeal to a mainstream audience like Stern.

i still enjoy listening to him greatly. i know people say he's not the same show as before but with everyting else, things mature and change. may not be the same energy and excitement but he's still one of the best interviewer i've heard.

I couldn't dissagree more. I've tried listening, and even forced myself to listen for a whole week while stern was on vacation. I just couldn't get into it.

The problem with Stern is the show went to shit when he decided to become Mr Hampton's..He's afraid to step on anyone's toes. He has Rosie Odonell on as a guest now and kisses her ass, when just a few years ago he was calling her a fat pig. It further declined when he announced he was suing Sirius. The last straw for me now is him becoming a judge on America's Got Talent. I have never watched a reality show and dont plan on starting now,and this will be all he talks about..

I still listen to him but it's rare. I do think the show sucks big time now. Opie and Anthony are good and it takes a while to get into any new show. I will defend Stern though cause in the end he does have a bigger audience.

My favorite part of Stern was Artie and I listen to Artie now on the Nick and Artie Show.

Same thing happened to Adam Carolla when he went on "Dancing with the Stars". All he talked about was the show. It was an obvious ploy by the show's people to get more male viewers.

I'm sorry Adam, I don't want to listen to you talk about a dancing show all day.

msnbc must think he is relevant thus the article i posted, what other superstar spends his evening calling his fans?
this is why howard will get ratings for that stupid reality show, and they know it, that is how he got all the consessions and salary they gave him.

I've been looking for that clip for ages.

I don't like Howard as a person. As a human being he is shit. As a radio entertainer he was the best at one point.

And according to Opie he says that Howard gave Letterman a call and asked Letterman's people to not have Opie and Anthony on the show anymore. Oddly enough they killed in that appearance and they were never asked back.

Howard has to kiss ass of guests now otherwise they wont go on the air. Since their is no censorship on satty some of his guests in the early days got into trouble and lost contracts for some of the things they said and did on his show. 2 big ones off hand was a Skank whore whos name i cant remember riding the Sybian machine live on his show and losing a multi-million dollar contract, then Gilbert lost his AFLAC job over things he said. There have been other legal battles as well over things guests said on the show.
What agent in his right mind is going to book a client whos already a loose cannon on howards show where they liquor them up and try to to see how wild they can go? Not many.....next to none if you've listened to the show the last 2 yrs or so.
But in his prime nobody could hold a candle to the show....here is my choice as the greatest radio clip in history....
