Irsay dumping Polians and probably Caldwell. IMO Caldwell needs to go. No excuse for that weak effort this year by Indy.

Looks like the writing is on the wall too for Peyton Manning......seems like a clear message to me that Irsay wants to draft Andrew Luck.

The Colts allowed Jim Caldwell to conduct his normal press conference on Monday, but things took a turn for the crazy on Monday afternoon when the Colts announced a 5 p.m. ET press conference and reports emerged that owner Jim Irsay decided to "clean house" and fire Bill Polian and Chris Polian. There hasn't been confirmation of whether or not the team will also fire coach Jim Caldwell.

That news comes from the NFL Network and it means the Colts are admitting what became obvious this year: the entire Indianapolis roster just isn't very good.

Peyton Manning shored up many problems for the Colts, but once he was injured, the team was exposed and limped its way to a two-win season and the No. 1 overall draft pick.

Disposing of the Polians would also make it easier to sever ties with Manning -- Bill drafted Manning in 1998 -- if Irsay wants to move along to a new era (one that would presumably feature Andrew Luck as the Colts starting quarterback).

Either way, change is apparently coming, and coming quick in Indy.

Im sure the Redskins are going to ask about him. But i think Shanny wants his own qb to prove he can still pick one, ego too big

Don't the jets have Manning's old offensive coordinator on staff? I can't imagine the Colts not keeping Peyton for another year or two though. I think Peyton will make around $28 million next year, no doubt he brings in the revenue for the Colts to merit that kind of salary, be it through merchandise, tv or however else. Be crazy for Peyton to be in jets uniform though, I just don't see him fitting in with a bunch of loudmouth excuse makers, but I'm sure Peyton would change that enviroment.

Part of me says this is a shrewd move by Irsay, part of me is not so sure.

Even though the team did not have a chance of a Super Bowl run without Manning, Irsay took the chance to evaluate his team.

Polian's personnel moves were dictated by having Manning. If Manning was not there, he might have drafted different. When Manning was injured, it was a like a house of cards that fell.

It is tough to say.

Irsay realized that Manning has been carrying the team for a decade and that Polian isn't a good GM; now he has his excuse to dump him so he did.

How is Chris Polian not a good GM?
His first three years as GM were successful, this year the face of the franchise went down, the owner tanked the season, we are talking about the Irsay family here.
Remember the movie "Major League?" the woman who owned the Indian Rachel Phelps, that's Irsay in real life.

Irsay is a penny pinching scumbage, just like his old man who lied through his teeth and told the world, and the city of Baltimore, he would never leave Baltimore, than at midnight, backed up the moving vans, and told the media, intoxicated and stinking to the heavens of booze, and I quote "This is my goddamn team, I can do whatever the hell I want with it....."

The list is long on the scumbag things Irsay has done, wouldn't pay Marchibroda, the list is endless.....

Here's the real low down as to what happened, Polian and his kid Chris wants to keep Manning, while drafting and developing Luck, Irsay doesn't want to pay Manning anymore, Bill (not Chris) have philosophical differences on what to do with the #1 pick, that's why Bill got fired, his son Chris got fired for being in the crossfire.

Polian not a good GM :missingte

Sorry, I'll take the words of Dungy and Mike Golic and others who swear Polian is a good GM over some drunken horse player.

Polian is exactly what my VIKES need. A foots guy at the helm, get rid of this fool Spielman, worst draft day personnel in the league. Also either fire Frazier or keep him out of the draft process. Prefer the firing option.

As a huge Indy fan, I am also a fan of Irsay. This guy is a great owner, and a great businessman. He is definitely not tight with his money to the local organizations.

That and he hasnt made a decent draft in some time, I would like to see Caldwell gone too and bring in someone with defense as a priority and not just a back up option

Don't the Colts have till March 15 or thereabouts to decide whether or not to pick up Manning's contract? If they don't pick it up he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Will be interesting to see what happens.

With Polion gone it will be much easier to get rid of manning, they were very, very close. He was one of the last guests to leave peytons wedding reception ,and has been there for him every step of the way during his NFL career. I just think Irsay wants to be the guy in control , wants to be the guy who drafted luck and brought the colts a possibly another peyton like QB. Its his goddamn team as his father would say.
