A man boasted on Facebook that he and his friends beat up two Rangers fans outside a Philadelphia cheesesteak hotspot following Monday's NHL Winter Classic.

Police have released video footage online in the hope of catching the group of Flyers fans, but a man named Edward Neary appeared Wednesday to admit his participation in the attack.

Neary wrote on Facebook, "it was me and my friends do something about it," and then used a homophobic slur. His Facebook page, which has since been deleted, said that Neary graduated from high school in 2009.

Neary later blamed the incident on his friends, identifying three by name, and claiming the Rangers fans instigated the fight.

He made the claim on a Facebook page for Flyers fans called Broad Street Hockey. The operator of the page had posted video of the fight in an effort to help police identify the attackers.

Three suspects wearing Flyers jerseys are seen in the video repeatedly punching the two men in Rangers jerseys outside Geno's Steaks in the south of the city. Officials said the attack occurred around 7:15 p.m. local time.

One of the victims, later revealed to be off-duty Woodbridge, N.J., police officer Neal Auricchio Jr., was hospitalized with a concussion following the attack, his father told the New York Post.

"He's in pretty tough shape," Neal Auricchio Sr. said. "He got beat up pretty bad."

He said his son, a former US Marine who served two tours and earned a Purple Heart, had driven down to Philadelphia with a friend to watch the outdoor Winter Classic between the two rivals.

Neal Auricchio Sr. said his son told him a pack of Flyers fans began talking trash and then jumped him.

The father pleaded with the attackers to turn themselves in.

"You did the wrong thing, now do the right thing and take your punishment," he said.

I go to a lot of Steeler away games. Been very lucky to not have that happen, since I do wear my Steelers apparel. Maybe because we Steeler fans travel so well. That video makes me sick.

With a military and law enforcement background, you would think he would have far better situational awareness. I mean, green belt karate students learn how to be aware of multiple attackers.

It's definitely risky wearing your team's colors in enemy territory. Of course, no one should ever get attacked for doing this, but when you have fanatics who are drunk and high and aren't thinking rationally, you're going to get hooliganism.

On a lighter note, mplastered, please tell me the name of the babe with the big boobs that you're using for your avatar. She's a beauty.

I am not the least bit surprised this happened in Philly considering a good percentage of the fans are classless fucks.

I'm a die-hard Philly fan and this shit makes me sick. It's sports. A game. It's for our amusement and it drives some people to ACTUAL heart break and this type of rage. It's a terrible trait of humans.

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—The instigator of a brutal fight that ended with a New York Rangers fan lying stunned in the middle of a Philadelphia intersection faces assault charges stemming from the altercation between rival hockey fans following the NHL Winter Classic, police said Friday.

Dennis Veteri was charged Thursday with aggravated and simple assault and other counts stemming from the Jan. 2 fight following the outdoor matchup between the Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.
Police said Veteri threw the punch that turned a verbal dispute physical, then landed a blow that knocked an off-duty police officer and Iraq war veteran unconscious.
“This was a very, very vicious beating,” said police Capt. Laurence Nodiff.
Veteri, of Glassboro, N.J., was arrested Thursday and released on bail Friday morning after his arraignment. A phone listing for him could not immediately be located and it wasn’t clear whether he had an attorney.
Nodiff said Veteri and two other men were the clear aggressors after Rangers fans showed up at an intersection that features two of Philadelphia’s iconic cheesesteak stands.
A video of the fight posted on YouTube shows a man police identified as Veteri whipping off his coat and throwing a punch, sparking a melee that ends with Woodbridge Township, N.J., police officer Neal Auricchio lying in the pavement after being punched.
“As we all saw on the video it is a vicious beating with the conclusion of a knock down punch which knocks the police officer unconscious,” Nodiff said.
Investigators said Auricchio suffered serious facial injuries that will require reconstructive surgery.
Police said the video drew tips that eventually led them to Veteri by way of a credit card receipt from another restaurant at the intersection that was paid just before the fight.
Online court records show Veteri has a history of arrests in Philadelphia, including a guilty plea following a 1998 aggravated assault arrest.
Veteri is due back in court Jan. 31 for a preliminary arraignment.
