I think things are headed in the right direction for online sports betting in the longer term. My one concern is that the DOJ and the Eliot Ness wannabes will turn their attention to sports betting in the short term.

That said, in another bit of good news, sports broadcaster Brent Musburger expressed his support for sports betting in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated:
SI.com: You are an announcer who mentions the point spread more than most others. Why is that?

Musburger: Because it is an especially big part of football in this country, and I think there are a lot of people that are interested. For example, I was in Las Vegas recently and I made it a point to go to a sports book to ask about this game. They told me the first game had the most money wagered on it of any college football game this year, and they expected this one will exceed that but it would be late action….I think [sports betting] should have been legalized and taxed. One of the first things people ask about a football game is: Who’s favored? And by how much? I know coaches who will look at the point spread and then in a staff meeting say, “What do these guys know that we don’t?” It is a big part of the success of football in this society. I mean, the National Football League, some of the early founders were bookmakers, and horse bettors. These were people I really appreciated and liked.
I know he's only a broadcaster, but guys of Musburger's stature do have a certain degree of influence in society at large.

If all 3 ever become available online, that's the order it will happen.

But the key here is once the funding methods are allowed again for Poker, it will open the door for online sportsbooks to find & offer ways to make it much easier for their customers to move money back & forth.

It's all moving in a positive direction...

Personally i think we are a long way from seeing nationwide internet gambling in any form except Kremiln controlled lotteries and some Nevada based gaming.

Online gaming that has 2 Govt hands in the cookie jar ( both the Kremlin and the States) will not resemble at all what we once knew. Consider that in a horse racing pool the state govt takes 30% + or - a few %'s out of the pools for taxes then taxes the winner again on the portion of the pool he does get.
In other words you have a Million dollar poker tourny.....the state takes 30% and then the Kremiln takes 15% that makes the pool already only 655K... The winner gets 40% of that = 262K or so then pays 38% income taxes on that. Leaving the winner of a 1 million dollar tourny a 1st prize of $163,000 after taxes...instead of the $400K he would have gotten pre-Black Friday. Mathematically that changes poker tourneys to losing propositions for even the best players in the world.
Lets try a $100 10 man SNG. the pool is $1000, the Govt takes its 45% that leaves $550 to the winners so the 1st place prize will be about $165 before he pays income taxes on the $165!!!.....Who the hell in their right mind is going to play that tourny as a moneymaking opportunity?????

I disagree....we may not be far from seeing internet poker legal but are we light years from seeing PROFITABLE internet poker played.........

Not all poker games are tourneys.

I think if it gets legalized, you're going to see a lot more donkeys back at the cash games, which to me is +EV.

Doesn't mean non gamblers will start to gamble, the same way if you legalize pot or heroin will turn non drug users into junkies.

They aren't going to stop with the tourneys, you can bet your ass they will have their hands in the rake for cash games as well. I agree with Sugar and PPP, yeah we may get it but turning a buck with outrageous fees, rakes, taxes and so on is going to be the problem.
