I probably will only get one.

I'm looking at the whole package...mainly movies (I figure in shows it is either HBO/Showtime)

I currently have showtime. i don't watch dexter or californication so it isn't used much. i used to watch big brother after dark once in a while.

doesn't hbo have good shows too? Entourage is gone but aren't there others?

HBO. I love Californication and Shameless, both on Showtime, and Homeland had a strong first season. It's also the home of Dexter. But HBO turns out projects by big-time directors, CONSISTENTLY has better TV, better movies, and better documentaries.

Starzz has much better movies...do NOT get hbo AND showtime. I have both and you will see one movie for a month on HBO and then they move it to Showtime for another month. HBO and SHO have better series.

turtles, my carrier is Time Warner

BM, i basically am telling myself I don't want showtime unless i watch dexter, weeds, or californication and I wont...so i'm leaning HBO but Starz is also one that I'd consider if they got the best movies.

Starz has Spartacus but no other show they have ever makes it past 2 season. I would look at the shows each offer, decide what you like, and pick from there. None of the movies they offer are ever that good and are usually similar

Yea but Netflix streaming options for movies are very week. If you are into movies. Just use torrents and download all you want. If you do netflix, get the 2discs deal and just make sure to keep sending them back. My friend has it but never remembers to send the movies back for weeks at a time so its a waste of money

Shdw, Hbo for a single one with Cinemax second for movies imo. I just talked my cable to give me Showtime for 6 months free by just pleading ignorance and wanted to compare the two. gl

HBO all around is the best. I have them all. While Starz may have slightly better movie selection then HBO it has little else. Showtime has some good shows, but so does HBO and HBO blows them away in every other category. HBO even has a good family channel if you have kids as well.

HBO has Big Love, Generation Kill, The Wire, Sopranos, Bored to Death, Entourage, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, The Corner(A personal favorite along with the wire), Oz, Sex and the city.... O wait all those shows are over. Looking forward, Curb is still great, Boardwalk has been good but i hated the ending to season 2, Luck looks good. It has good sports with Hard Knocks and 24/7. Eastbound and down is coming back too but for its last season. I don't think the other channels have shows that compare but its not as great as it used to be.
