BOSTON -- Video recordings have been released of a Massachusetts state trooper allegedly trying to shake down a bookie for money.
Trooper John Analetto appeared Friday during a hearing in federal court in Boston where prosecutors played the video recordings the bookie made while with Analetto on Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. That bookie has not been identified. In the recordings, Analetto could allegedly be heard threatening to kill and harm the man. "Will I kill you (expletive)? I will kill you," Analetto allegedly said in the recording. "Let let me tell you something right now, right (expletive) now I want to see you survive and do better."
According to an affidavit released by the U.S. Attorney's Office on Tuesday,
Analetto was introduced to the gambler, who had been engaged in illegal
betting for 17 years. "I will kill you but I will help you," Analetto is allegedly heard saying. "I will tell you right now you're stupid that's your problem. Hear me?
Yes. You're stupid you're a (expletive)."
The trooper loaned the man $24,000 in exchange for a percentage of the gambling business, the affidavit said. A 20-year veteran of the state police force, Analetto also said he would break into the gambler's house at night and kill him in his sleep,
according to the affidavit. Prosecutors said they have hours of videotape evidence against Analetto including phone calls.
"We'd appreciate it if you contact the right people and start doing the right
thing or ah 2012 isn't gonna be too good for you," Analetto is allegedly heard. "So Happy New Year to you and your mom, and your dad and family. We appreciate your consideration. Make the call we hope to hear from you by the first of 2012. Capice?". Analetto, who worked out of the department's Brighton barracks, was relieved of duty Tuesday and suspended without pay. A federal judge is deciding whether or not to keep Analetto in custody until his trial.
