i actually thought he would've, and surprised me when he kept going for the td.

slide in bounds, line up for a extra point length field goal, give the saints maybe 15 seconds, instead of 2 mins

Just cant trust your fg kicker with the game on the line. Looks smart now, but id rather make them drive for a td then rely on a kicker

even though they won it was still an obvious decision imo. you slide, the game is over and you win.

If your Defense can't stop you them, you don't belong in the NFL. Also, it takes 3 parts to execute a FG and only 1 to go wrong and you lose.
Ask the NYG vs SF. Ask Romo vs Sea, that was an extra point.

When you're on the 28 yard line and down a point with a little over 2 minutes to play, it's unreasonable to expect a player to be thinking that they shouldn't score if they have the opportunity. If they lead by a point, that type of thinking should be present. Down a point, from the 28 yard line, no way.

Great game BUT HORRENDOUSLY coached.

I dont expect the QB to think mid run to slide, but if you are the coach and you call a QB run at that point you must tell him if he makes the 1st down to slide.

By scoring a TD there, their chance of winning was about 60% (see Pinny live lines). If he slides inside the 10, their chances are at least 97% if not 99%.

But it gets worse for the Saints.

Up 3 with 40 seconds left and the ball at the SF 30, you dont even rush any linemen. You tackle every receiver, tight end, and running back immediately. You give up 5 yards, 5-10 seconds go way and you repeat. The first time 10-15 seconds probably goes away as the QB figures out what the hell is going on. 30 seconds later, SF is sitting at midfield, throwing one hail mary trying to win.

If you don't want to do that, surely with 14 seconds left and the ball at your 10 or 15, you tackle all of the above. Then there's 6-7 seconds left at the 5 and they must kick the FG. If they run a second play you tackle everyone again. Use this strategy and you can not lose in regulation there. IDIOTS

Statistically, what is probably more likely.

Drew Brees driving down the field and leading them to a TD with over 2 minutes to go or a botched 17 yard field goal.

I would say Brees driving the field.

I trust my defense. I don't see my top 5 nfl defense allowing a team to go 80 yards in 2 minutes. It happened, but i trust my defense more than my kicker

The game has changed. Referring to NOR last TD..... A few years ago instead of a 66 yard catch and run for a TD the defender who was coming from behind would have creamed Joey Graham as he contacted the ball. But instead he held up, waited for the catch and then went for the ball, and Graham escaped and ran for the TD. The league has put this mentality into the defender's heads, and it's altered the game.

The odds of missing a 25 yard fg are less than 5%. The odds of Brees driving for a TD when using all 4 downs in 2 minutes are about 40% (at least that is what the Pinny odds said)

If you kick the 25 yarder on 3rd down (meaning a bad snap is downed) your odds are probably under 3%.

The argument of "Well, players can't think quickly enough in the middle of a play to step out of bounds." is not a good one.

A coach can say before the last drive starts, "If when the play starts there is less than x amount of time, do not go in the end zone."
