Wasnt it (R) Lamar Smith who introduced the bill? Along with the Senate version co sponsored by Rubio and Roy Blunt? Sure, you can make the case its a liberal holly-wood backed bill but there was/is bipartisan support for it. These two clowns were for it before they were against it. Re-election, is a powerful motivator no?

are you really trying to blame the crackdown on a bill that was proposed two weeks ago, the same bill Cantor said it won't see the light of day?

all 4 Republican candidates oppose that bill too

seriously?

On the 14th, Obama said that he would not sign a bill that contains provisions that could lead to internet censorship, so your point is moot Willie.

I think we are finding out how powerful internet entities like Google and Facebook are. The 24 hour blackout, though not widely participated in, was enough to flip many people to the other side. This bill, in this form, will never pass- book it.

Among many, many consequences-some intended, many unintended- this bill would all but destroy YouTube, which is owned by Google.

I am all for the protection of intellectual property rights, but there are better ways to do it. This bill will be re-written from scratch and a much different version than the current one will pass.

my point has nothing to do with the bill proposed 1/12/2012, and everything to do with what's happening now

furthermore, I'm not absolving the Republican party, I'm mocking people who argue the democratic party is the party of "choice" and personal freedoms.

with respect to online gambling, the legalization of drugs, internet regulations, wearing a seat belt yada yada yada, they're all the same

I think most Dems have realized that unfortunately Dems are not that different from Reps, big corporations have won and that we are on the way towards a police state

And imo this particular bill is not law for the moment because big powerful interests are split on this issue. The "giants" of the internet are against it

Megaupload is a prime site for DJs to trade music and remixes among each other. This is a rough day. If they also kill Hulkshare and Zippyshare then many of us are out of business. The irony is, it's the DJs in the clubs who break the new records that cause radio stations to be flooded with requests. ONLY THEN, AFTER the radio jumps on a new artist do listeners legally go out and purchase the music en masse.

DJs trading music broke records and ignited the careers of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Drake [yeah I know, shoot us now lol].

Bingo. The new and improved bill written by google and wikipedia will pass no matter how many are against it.

If there is truly a significant demand for this style of web platform, the demand will be met by a different (or more likely the same providers operating with primary servers in another country) provider at whatever level that demand merits.

Watch the news once in awhile. The owners of megaupload were arrested in New Zealand.

A few months ago Universal Music Group forced many DJ Remix Services like "Crack 4 DJs" and "Future Heat" to shut down. UMG is very powerful, so I sort of saw this coming.

Poster Murph will save us all :)

The entire content of the megaupload site will be available from a different server within just a few days if in fact it has the demand you cite (and which I believe you cite correctly)

just post it in OFFSHORE forum, copy and paste my own post here.......

They will pass it. Next step is to incorporate a "screen-sharing/monitoring" mechanism into the law. All internet users will have to sign screen-sharing/monitoring agreement with the internet service providers, similar to employer/employee internet using agreement, thus allowing the government to see what you see on your screen at anytime if they want to.

The US government is no longer for the people, they want to control every aspects of people's lives, it's a boss/slave relationship as you will. If you haven't wiped your ass with the US constitution yet, I suggest you to do it today, it feels good, really really good.

Probably DJs will go back to the old way, file sharing through e-mails. That is, unless the feds shut our forums down, and they already closed a few of them. They hit us harder than gamblers. I'll always be able to find what I need as I have a network, Soundcloud.com, etc. But the noose is getting tighter on net freedoms. This is why you see so many threads asking where to watch games online. They keep shutting the good ones down. Same with watching cable series online. Getting harder to find working links. videobb now kaput.
