Since I grew up in New England, I still use the term "soda," but all my cousins in Minnesota say "pop."

And, most people in Texas tend to use the term "coke" to refer to soft drinks in general. It's always seemed weird to me...

I have spent extended time in places who use each term...to me the most annoying was "coke"

Here in Maine it is a soda. I could deal with "pop" but calling every "soda" a "coke" just annoyed the hell out of me.

when I was younger soda, but now soft drink. That's some real progressive thinking!

I'm a 'Pop' guy. My county is a pop county bordering a soda county. Explains why many of my friends are soda people. My wife is also a soda person, but she is from a dark blue region. Go figure.

I thought there were areas in Texas that did the 'Dr. Pepper' usage (like Coke). I wonder if they are those heavily represented by 'Other'.

grew up in phila.. was always soda and always will be. MY question is this ... do the people who call it 'pop' think that 'soda' is as foreign and strange as we soda people think the word 'pop' is ??? if I HAD to refer to the drink in question as pop, it would drive me nuts. that all being said... I prefer water these days rather than any type of soda
