Lucas Oil Stadium is home to the Indianapolis Colts and is a retractable roof stadium that will be closed for this event due to the near certainty of winter weather.
Of course a big part of the Super Bowl has nothing at all to do with football as commercials and celebrity entertainment are a big part of the festivities. Madonna will be performing at halftime and the 30 second advertisement rates of $3.5 million are a record high.

The Super Bowl has come a long way from its humble beginnings in which the first one ever played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was just two thirds full in the stands although televised by both NBC and CBS. The NFL itself has benefited greatly from its emphasis on parity as the teams that make the Super Bowl are highly unpredictable, which was not at all the case through the first 10 years of Super Bowl action. The New England Patriots have helped redefine what a Super Bowl is all about both good and bad as their three wins were all in dramatic fashion with two of the titles coming on late field goals. The Patriots also suffered what could be considered the most heart breaking Super Bowl loss in February of 2008 when they were defeated in the final seconds by the New York Giants to ruin their shot at a perfect 19-0 undefeated season
