If you give them your name they will put in the computer for future reference if you pay cash.
But you have to tell them before hand so they will have some kind of record of it.
Look at in there shoes.
I could buy same product at Amazon for $70 and take it to BB and exchange it for $100.
What if everyone did that?

Doesn't seem unreasonable....the more i think about it, the more your request is unreasonable.
Best Buy has a great - no questions asked - return/exchange policy. Of course, you need record that you bought the product there.
I can kind of understand that if I was never a customer , they have records of me buying $2,732 worth of Items just in 2011
$589 Last week and $59 on Monday.... and the One Thing I bought for Cash and Lost the receipt on, they won't exchange it.
This isnt a 'new' policy. This is standard. If you pay cash for something, you have to have a receipt to exchange/return it. A 'regular' customer can bring in something and try to exchange it like any other customer. Makes no difference how much you've spent there.I don't see it that way, when you are a regular customer.
5 months ago they took back almost anything. Guess they were getting hit with what Chop said.

I disagree. I worked for Best Buy years ago and this policy was in place even then. Original receipt needed on cash purchase.YES, it is a New Policy that started at the end of Aug 2011. I spoke to Best Buy Corporate.
And about a Year ago I exchanged a Gift that I got with No Receipt.
If I owned a Mom and pop store and you lived in my town and was a regular customer and I had a receipt rule just like BB I would let you off the hook and would let you exchange anyway.
But Mom and Pop and BB are apples and oranges.
Cant expect the same bending of rules at a BB with hundreds of locations.
It cant be done.

At any rate, if this is why 'best buy stinks' for you now, then so be it. I don't see how a rational, common sense approach to what you are asking doesn't make sense to you. There would be fraud out the ass going on without any proof of buying product from any store with this policy.
I went into Best Buy on 2 seperate occasions this football season with intent to buy a new TV. The first time I waited for 15 minutes to be helped and then I had to chase an associate down. After I spent 10 minutes with him he revealed that he actually worked in the stockroom and would need to find someone else to help me.
Second time at a different location I stood by the TV section looking for another 15 minutes or so and was never even approached. I ended buying my new TV from Wal Mart.
