If you give them your name they will put in the computer for future reference if you pay cash.
But you have to tell them before hand so they will have some kind of record of it.

Look at in there shoes.

I could buy same product at Amazon for $70 and take it to BB and exchange it for $100.

What if everyone did that?

Doesn't seem unreasonable....the more i think about it, the more your request is unreasonable.

Best Buy has a great - no questions asked - return/exchange policy. Of course, you need record that you bought the product there.

$589 Last week and $59 on Monday.... and the One Thing I bought for Cash and Lost the receipt on, they won't exchange it.

I don't see it that way, when you are a regular customer.

5 months ago they took back almost anything. Guess they were getting hit with what Chop said.

Its hard for non mom and pop stores to adjust corporate policy for your situation.
You have to understand, for every person out there that follows the rules, there are others that stay up late at night figuring out ways to beat the system.

I imagine they made this rule not to piss you off, but they made it because they were probably having exactly what I said happen to them hundreds of times a day.

If you pay cash just tell them to put it in there computer so they can look it up.

This isnt a 'new' policy. This is standard. If you pay cash for something, you have to have a receipt to exchange/return it. A 'regular' customer can bring in something and try to exchange it like any other customer. Makes no difference how much you've spent there.

YES, it is a New Policy that started at the end of Aug 2011. I spoke to Best Buy Corporate.
And about a Year ago I exchanged a Gift that I got with No Receipt.

If I owned a Mom and pop store and you lived in my town and was a regular customer and I had a receipt rule just like BB I would let you off the hook and would let you exchange anyway.

But Mom and Pop and BB are apples and oranges.

Cant expect the same bending of rules at a BB with hundreds of locations.
It cant be done.

I disagree. I worked for Best Buy years ago and this policy was in place even then. Original receipt needed on cash purchase.

At any rate, if this is why 'best buy stinks' for you now, then so be it. I don't see how a rational, common sense approach to what you are asking doesn't make sense to you. There would be fraud out the ass going on without any proof of buying product from any store with this policy.

I guess No Biggie, because I'm probably better off dealing with Amazon or Tiger Direct. Everyone always says that Amazon is great with Prices.
I'll just give the Blu Ray / DVD Home Theater system as a Gift and go somewhere else for what I really need. Which is a Sound Bar and Blu ray

Well not sure why the Store manager and Corporate would lie to me.
I really didn't believe the Manager, so I called Corporate. They gave the exact same Time frame as the manager. When this Policy Changed.

Last year when I returned a Gift without a receipt, I had no problem. they just gave me BB Gift card.

If anyone doesn't believe me, they can call Corporate and ask.

I went into Best Buy on 2 seperate occasions this football season with intent to buy a new TV. The first time I waited for 15 minutes to be helped and then I had to chase an associate down. After I spent 10 minutes with him he revealed that he actually worked in the stockroom and would need to find someone else to help me.

Second time at a different location I stood by the TV section looking for another 15 minutes or so and was never even approached. I ended buying my new TV from Wal Mart.

Yeah, they have gotten like Home Depot. when they first were around they did everything under the sun to help you. Now it's tougher...

The best Buy near me is pretty good. never had a problem like yours. But I have heard at other Locations. and that's why i always go to the same one.

This just left a bad taste in my mouth. I felt it came from out of left field.
I mean let's face it, I will not hurt myself. If BB has a better Price than other places, I won't go pay more.
But Now I Will Look around before I go there.
The 2 pieces I am looking for now, I found one that is cheaper. The Blu Ray price is better at Best Buy.

Guess i will just return the two items I bought last week and get the Blu ray.
Return $489 worth of stuff, buy a $99 Blu ray.
Oh, and I have the receipt for the $489 worth of stuff.

Agreed. Last time I was in BB there was a terrible funk. I think it was coming from the rear of the store...they should really clean their shit up!

I remember in my day fast food places like McDonald's didn't hand out receipts with your purchase. So we took advantage of that and would pull up through the drive thru window and say we ordered a whole mess of food and they left out a burger and a chicken sandwich or something. They would interrogate us for a second and ask us if we remember what we paid but we were a step ahead and memorized their menu prices and added it up with the tax so they would say pull on thru and hand us our free food. We hit up pretty much every Taco Bell, McDonalds and Little Caesars on a daily basis.

We also used to do our free clothes shopping at Nordstroms because they wouldn't put theft deterrent devices on their clothes. So we would have a friend walk in and grab like 5 pairs of $100 jeans and 5 expensive shirts/sweatshirts and put them in a pile. Then we would send another friend in and grab the pile of clothes to take to the counter and return them. Back then in 1991-1992 Nordstroms would hand you the cash. I am talking handing a 15 or 16 year old kid $500+ dollars in cash with nothing more for identification but a high school ID. It was crazy I tell you. Our classmates would always wonder where we got all of the designer clothes and bomb ass cologne from and how we always had hundreds and twenty's in our pockets and our little crew just kept quiet because we didn't word to get out and have everybody try to do this and blow up the spot.

I don't blame the stores one bit for taking a hard ass stance these days on customer returns. With the technology and customer information available today they would be stupid to not try to protect themselves.

Word to the wise even if you are spending $10 on a non food product always pay on credit card. I bust out my credit card even if I am buying a cheap $2.00 pack of batteries. This way if something goes wrong with your purchase you can always dispute with your credit card. On more than one occasion I have went to Best Buy after a long day of work to pick up a Blu-Ray movie and you know how movies have the protective sleeves that slide on and off the case? Well somebody who I guess wanted the movie more than I did would rip open the plastic around the movie and slide out the disc and put the protective sleeve back on. Next thing I know when I got home no movie in the case. Every time I have taken the movie back for this issue they always allow me to pick up a new movie. Had I paid in cash or with store credit card and not on my visa they most likely would tell me to go fuck myself.

I bought some dvds from Best Buy during Xmas shopping, the store was like a ghost town comparing to 3-4 yrs ago. Best Buy & Sears will go out of business in maybe 10 years or less.

Could Best Buy be going out of business?

http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/money/c...est-buy-be-going-out-of-business1325867756618

Could the nation's biggest electronics chain -- Best Buy -- be in trouble? That's what Forbes Magazine claims in its January 2012 issue.

Despite the crowds lined up outside Best Buy on Black Friday, Forbes claims "Best Buy is going out of business.... gradually."

It points to falling sales, a dropping stock price and the Christmas Eve public relations disaster, where Best Buy canceled hundreds of online orders it couldn't fulfill in time for Christmas, just a few days before the holiday.

Forbes also says Best Buy is having more and more trouble competing with Amazon when it comes to prices and customer service. And it says visiting the chain's stores is not usually an enjoyable experience, as a visit to the Apple store can be.

Best Buy disputes the report saying, We are shifting our focus to be more customer centric.
