Cable or Dish - Which is really the better choice?

Currently have cable but just feel like it's costing way too much. I see many houses with the dish and wonder if it's really the better way to go. The two most heard about complaints I've heard over the years about the dish are:

1) It doesn't have local channels (from what I understand dish networks now provide local channels)

2) People not happy with the service contracts.

What do you guys know as the best way to go? Anyone NOT satisfied with their dish network?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Your signal can get very fuzzy during storms, this happens at the local bar I go to here in Chicago that has DirectTV

Had AT&T Uverse last and now DirectTV. I actually think both are great. I haven't had any problems with the signal going out during storms or high winds or anything like that. You get your local channels so that isn't a problem. I think it really just depends on your situation.

One good thing about AT&T is the on demand feature. I don't have that on Direct.

Agree 10000000%, IF available where you Live, Get FiOs by Verizon
I have Everything under the Sun Including Starz, plus you can get The NFL Red zone
and it doesn't Only mean they show Just Red Zone of Games. A Lot of times, you are seeing a good part of a game.

I got rid of Cablevision a Long time ago and went with DTV, then had both Fios and DTV because of the NFL package. But just got rid of DTV because after watching the Red Zone, there was really no need to have the NFL package.

Also, there are other Sport Packages that Verizon has...So if you can get it in your area... Go for it.

Heard they might be coming to FL as well... and I hope so, because i can use it down there !

I've had Direct TV for 15 yrs and have never had a problem with the picture, plus the sports packages are better there..don't know how expensive they are compared to others, never compared-the others don't get the Sunday Ticket

Dish was better for years... now I think cable is back on top. The on demand feature is great. I never thought anything could beat Sunday ticket but NFL Redzone is pure awesome. I use to have Direct TV but now have Verizon Fios, my brother has ATT Uverse. I like both a Fios and Uverse over Direct TV

was tough to give up my PiP...Dish allowed you to PiP any of their channels so I could have a movie on the main screen then pop on the Pens game in the corner. I can run PiP through my Pioneer but the only channels I can PiP are the OTA locals which works just fine on Sundays but pretty useless the rest of the week. So, got a used computer to put next to TV to stream games while watching a "family" show on the Big Screen

FIOS did give me some channels that I didn't have with Dish however...Goltv/fox sports deportes with some great soccer, some various Fox Sports locals, NFL Red Zone, NBC Sports, and Cinemax so is a hell of a deal to save 1k/year. Plus they upgraded my internet to 35/25 from 25/15 and added me to digital phone where i can check my voicemail online.

The Dish "on demand" was superior to FIOS' version but not a big factor one way or the other

Up where I am in Halifax, Nova Scotia, there is a small regional cable company (Eastlink). They have a kick ass Super Sports Pak which includes everything: NFL, NBA, CFB, CBB, MLB, and NHL. Because it's a small market and somewhat economically disadvantaged it's super cheap.

i just switched to DTV after years with cable for the free NFL package. I am stuck with Time Warner who refuses to carry the NFL network so i finally switched to DTV. Because of the new customer deal I am saving about $60 a month off by switching. I have had a few times where the signal went out but really it hasn't been much. I might go back to cable once the 2 year contact is up and i have to pay normal rates

Time Warner is brutal, the worst of the big 4.

I used to be a techie for Cablevision, believe me, TW sucks.
