It is called abnow.com and everytime i click on a regular link it hijacks my webpage. I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of it. Spybot, malwarebytes and spyhunter. I've even tried to do it in safe mode. Only thing i haven't tried is to fromat the damn hard drive. Any suggestions??????????????

go into the control panel and then recovery, do a system restore, when you open the system restore it will show several restore points

hopefully you have a recent one from before the infection and you can restore to there, this restore does NOT affect documents etc, only system files

this virus seems quite new

the instructions I've found to remove them involve messing with the registry....not recommended unless you work in IT

if I was you , I would be making a backup of my info outside the computer like NOW ............

its quite possible the major antivirus companies have a fix for this soon if they havent yet...but once a computer has been infected with a nasty virus.its never the same

Run combofix first (in safe mode if necessary) then run Kapersky Trojan Remover.... Guaranteed to work.

Don't reformat anything. That seems to be the go to answer on these forums whenever someone gets a virus.

there is a very good reason for that, a nasty virus can cripple in very ugly ways critical system files , rest asured that if MY computer ended up with a virus, that computer would be offline till a full recovery is made (while I tell my boss that I can only accept emergencies regarding the 30 servers I manage for them )

:)

Combofix is excellent. There are risks involved using it but you are no worse off if you can't remove the virus. The worse case scenario is a reinstall of Windows. I used Combofix with Windows XP and had no problems. These new viruses are diabolical and even a system restore to a prior date won't kill the virus. Combofix goes deep inside the operating system to remove the virus. Some users recommend using Firefox with no scripts. You basically have to disable any type of Java apps. The lowlifes who code viruses are really smart. One of their tricks is to take a hot trending topic and put it at the top of Yahoo and Google searches. Say you search Romney. Some site will come up you click it and get a virus. When Michael Jackson died the virus hackers had a field day directing people to sites that installed a virus.

btw contrary to what you have been told, I suggest you run safe mode WITHOUT networking, having the tcp/ip stack disabled may make it easier for the antivirus to remove the virus since the process may have trouble coming up if the network interfaces are down (just a guess)

Run Rkill, Exehelper, and then Malwarebytes Anti-Malware all in safe mode. You can find em in google.
