whats the best approach? Have a bunch of cash, walk across and keep heading south until you felt 'safe'? How much cash should one need and once you felt 'safe' what would you do? Thoughts?

Do you speak Spanish? R u brown? If the answer is no to both, relocate north to Canada by Greyhound.

Do some research online, buy a lonely planet book. Save up obviously. Start working on your Spanish. You will find it easier to find work where there are Tourist and US Dollars are spent. Dont ever get deterred, be smart, and try to respect the local culture and you can make a life virtually anywhere.

My mother and father lived in Mexico for almost 11 years. 750 miles south of the border. It was and remains a wonderful place.

Keep heading south until you reach Costa Rica. Well-educated population, relatively safe, democratic government, no military, friendly to online sports betting, lots of ex-pats, great weather, awesome beaches and beautiful women. I would move there in a heartbeat if I was single.

even mobsters in the witness protection program don't have to relocate to mexico...they just go to a metropolis in middle america or the south, such as kansas city or new orleans, and no one finds 'em

then again maybe the 'co ain't so bad
