Goodell: NFL could drop Pro Bowl

Roger Goodell says last weekend's Pro Bowl, which the AFC won 59-41, wasn't "the kind of football we want to be demonstrating to our fans."

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says he is disappointed in the quality of last week's Pro Bowl and changes must be considered, perhaps even dropping the game altogether.
Speaking on ESPN Radio, Goodell says this year's Pro Bowl wasn't "the kind of football we want to be demonstrating to our fans, and you heard it from the fans, the fans were actively booing in the stands."
Goodell made his remarks on Sunday, hours before the start of the Super Bowl.
Goodell has spoken to the NFL Players Association about his disappointment, adding, "We are going to either have to improve the quality of what we are doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes, or even consider eliminating the game if that is the kind of quality of game we are going to provide."
The AFC won the game 59-41.

I am a fantasy junkie so my view is skewed because I hate all the bye weeks.........

So, why dont they do it like MLB.......after the first 8 games, all teams get a week off for their bye and the Pro- Bowl is played that same week. They dont have to go all the way to Hawaii either, they can rotate cities like they do for the Superbowl. Problem solved:)

I didn't even watch the game, so I don't know what the fans were booing about, but I'd be perfectly happy if they just did away with it all together, or turned it into a skills competition.

i would like them to bring back the skills challenges. like nba allstar has, or a rookie combine type day. like how far they can throw the ball, moving tire targets and other challenges. would make for some fun prop bets

Anyone remember the game Quarterback Club? I loved that shit even though it was tough as hell back in the day.

The game is bad enough no matter when it's played, what with those half assed rules-I assume they still have the no blitizing rule-along with the hands off attitude of the players, but what idiot put it prior to the Super Bowl so that you are likely to be missing players from two very good teams? Ridiculous....

This is a good idea. You could also add in a game of Madden where all the players play themselves.

I think they have to have a pro bowl, wouldnt be right without an allstar game. But NFL does need to do something to make it more interesting. The "skills challenge" would probably be more funner to watch than the pro bowl itself

As long as the NFL can make money off it and people watch it and go to the game they will not cancel it. I never watch the NFL Probowl, but enough fans watch it for some reason. Players act like it's an inconvenience to show up play in the game. If the players don't care, why should I or anyone else?

I mentioned this as well in a recent thread.

Would be Sooo much better for fans and the players.

Does anyone here remember Warren Sapp's rookie year when he went into the Defensive Line compeition and dominated?

They should change the Senior Bowl (College seniors) to the actual Pro Bowl Game itself and have the NFL all stars play in the skills challenge
