Peyton Manning Rumors: Washington Redskins Lead Suitors Above Dolphins,*Chiefs

:think2:
For fans of the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs or any other team hoping that Peyton Manning will make his way in their direction, Mike Freeman of CBS Sports has some bad news. That’s because he says that the Washington Redskins are leading the rumor mill, for whatever that’s worth, and that it’s not even close.

In his latest Ten Point Stance column, Freeman writes, “Speaking of Peyton, everyone I speak to in the NFL — and I mean just about everyone — believes if Manning becomes a free agent, the Washington Redskins will sign him.”

That’s an interesting choice that he would want to face his brother twice a season and have to even go through the defending champions to be able to make the playoffs or win a division title. There are other places to play that would be much easier and allow him to also succeed. But perhaps there is something to the rumors that the Redskins would also bring in several of Manning’s former teammates with the Colts.

If Manning is going to be swayed by the addition of other former Colts players like Jeff Saturday or Reggie Wayne among others, that might be too steep of a price for most general managers to pay. Then again, a quarterback like Manning, if healthy, would make any such endeavor worth it.

Not sure Where he goes, but it will be a big PLUS.

I'm also not sure why the Colts wouldn't keep him just so he can help out Luck
Do they think Luck will be Ready to start Right off the bat ?

not what luck wants. luck wants to start from day 1... but i agree with you BAS... if I am luck how do you not want to sit behind one of the best that ever did it, at least for a year and learn

There is no way that the Colts could keep Manning and draft luck. He just signed a contract that was heavily front loaded in salary for the first few years. As far as I know, Manning got $23 million last season for not throwing a pass. If they picked up the roster bonus in a few weeks, they'd have over $50 million invested in him. I can't see them giving him that to 'mentor' Luck. Bottom line, if the Colts keep Manning, they'd have to pass on Luck unless they want him to ride the pine for at least two years or pay a backup eight figures. This is all assuming that Manning would not restructure his deal in a huge way.

Peyton will never end up in Washington.

Will never compete in same division as Eli. Same Conference perhaps.
Shanahan's intelligent days as a Head Coach are long gone...as in Bronco yrs with Elway/Davis. You think Peyton is going to team up with Skins when Shannys son is the Offensive Cordinator...Not

Speaking of smarts... how smart can one be to be the only team to beat the Super Bowl Champ Giants twice yet only win three other games.

u are completely spot on D, the reason that LUCK came back to Stanford was not to try to win a championship like most guys are thinkin, not an introvert like Luck, his whole reasoning, and he has said this, was to be 110% prepared to jump into the starting QB chair in week 1 which is gonna happen in my opinion.

ques: When is the deadline for POLIAN to decide to pay manning that bonus 20mil or whatever it was???

whaddya mean? if they keep peyton, draft LUCK they will get an assload on the trade market for luck! probably a draft day deal after they lock him in with the 1 pick............find Mike Ditka and trade every draft pick you have in the 2012 draft for like Ricky "Marijuana" Williams, but it would probably be worth it for LUCK,

Good point. If you can draft Luck and flip him for a boatload of draft picks, maybe you can retool with Manning instead of rebuild. The problem is that Manning is due the bonus way before the draft, plus Luck could refuse to sign a deal with certain teams (a la Eli Manning), possibly limiting your trade options. Lots of risk with that strategy, but it could pay off.

u make a good point gil. what im wondering; as an undrafted rookie coming into the NFL how much leeway do you actually have regarding where you go and who u sign with? anyone familiar with undrafted rookie rights regarding where they play?

The undrafted guys actually have all the leeway. They can go where ever they want. Lots of guys would prefer going undrafted than going in the latter rounds for this reason. As for a guy like Luck, the only real leverage that he holds would be the threat to not report (like the Colts experienced with Elway way back, but he had the baseball thing going) or to go to Canada like Rocket Ismael did back in the day. That said, with the talent that Luck possesses, he could probably whine his way out of Indy (a la Eli and San Diego) if he was so inclined.

28 Million reasons! They have to pay the roster bonus if Peyton is still on the roster in March.

This story (Manning to the Redskins) is all over the sports radio here in DC. Other than money, why would he want to come play for that putrid franchise? Dan Snyder has to be the worst owner to play for in the league! The Skins need to sign a young franchise QB....not another older, end of career, 2-3 season player (look how McNabb worked out).

It will be interesting to watch....and to see how well/poor he returns from the injury.

I love thse types of comments. It is stupid to believe that players will "help" another player to take thier place. Thats just silly thinking. It does not happen. Favre didn't even talk to Rodgers. The only one that I have heard of being helpfull is Warner with Manning.

Please people stop this theory it does not happen. How much help was McNabb to the players that replaced him. Just a silly and stupid thought that when making millions you would help someone take away your millions.

LOL @ you are you crazy. Trade the best QB prospect the last 10 years and keep a guy that could be done with just one more hit. Now I see why the books beat the hell out of you guys. Amazing what I am reading here.

LOL OMG crazy crazy He is the 1st pick in the draft. He will not be an undrafted rookie. He holds the power. Also he is like Eli he comes from money and he doesn't have to feel the pressure. If he wants to demand a trade he has the power to force a trade

Yeah, I tend to agree with this. AW and other Indy fans will let me know if I am wrong. But just looking at production, Manning doesn't seem as willing to help his backups.

Brady is one of the few who seems to be willing to do this, prob cause he was a backup.

Substitute the word Brees for Manning and they had the same story in the New Orleans paper yesterday....

Why do I think Luck is going to be a bust out? It's happened before with many other 1st round draft picks, like the guy drafted behind Manning. There's no guarantee that any 1st round draft pick makes it in the NFL.

I haven't seen manning taking any of the current backups "under the wing" I don't understand why Luck would get better treatment then the current, less threatening #2's
