It is not gonna go away, but it may not be very fun to watch in 10-15 years.

One thing I noticed this year is they called the regular season hits penalties all year and let them play in the playoffs. Was there a single personal foul for a hit in the playoffs? Im sure there was but it was nothing like the meaningless games.

Grantland has never been known for great articles. Funny they don't mention concussions in soccer. It's the number one sport for concussions in girls. And before I would even consider football injuries to the head, I would look at boxing and MMA..People get knocked out on a regular basis in boxing..Plus, what are they going to do, eliminate everything people do where they have the potnetial of getting hurt. It's like trying to eliminate cars because people die from traffic accidents.

I believe that roughly 100 years ago, football almost got banned after numerous players were killed during play; it's only a matter of time before it simply gets too rough and it shuts down due either to government fiat or liability issues. This won't happen if they can somehow find a way to completely eliminate PED's, which is highly unlikely.

Definitely plausible. In 1926, more than 120,000 people watched the heavyweight title fight between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney. Boxing was the biggest sport in America. Now it's a dying sport.

Yes...how big was the tobacco industry years ago....health concerns with HUGE lawsuits has taken that down...the biggest point being when a high school coach gets everything he owns taken away in a kids lawsuit...everyone gets sued in these types of cases...I know TWO former pro players here in Tampa that REFUSE to let their kids play football...one is an attorney...personal injury at that...what does that tell you ? he is very outspoken about it also...not a chump player either...Brad Culpepper

Guys will always be willing to take the risk though. Too much $ involved, there will always be an endless supply of elite athletes wanting to play in the NFL so that won't be an issue.

The threat to the NFL is the same threat the Catholic Church and the tobacco industry faced. They are fearful of lawsuit judgments that will force them into bankruptcy. Every day, a new player adds himself to the concussion lawsuit. Juries tend to award on the basis of how much money the defendant has. The tobacco companies paid a fortune but avoided bankruptcy. Many Catholic dioceses are filing for bankruptcy.

The NFL has a huge problem here. Imagine how the fact the league allowed bounties for injuring players will look in front of a jury.

The Kurt Warner story is potentially devastating.

The unfairness of it is the very players who engage in head hunting and bounties turn around years later and sue.

Boxing gets around this because it is an individual sport and there's no "coroporation" to sue because you work for yourself. The NFL, and NCAA, are in a deep pickle here. they have to do more to reduce head injuries but have players who don't want to comply,
