All-Star games are less competition and more fan entertainment.

A chance for the best-0f-the-best to spin their greatest hits.

Nobody does it quite the NBA with a weekend of festivities that include skills competition, a dunk contest and a game that includes just enough defense to keep it from being a Pro Bowl.

When the NBA All-Star Weekend is fantastic the emphasis is always on ‘fan.’

So how can you have an All-Star game this year without the most talked about player in the league? Can the NBA go an entire weekend without a mention of Jeremy Lin?

Of course the New York Knicks guard hasn’t earned a spot on the team. You can’t do that in six games no matter how high the hysteria.

But when Spike Lee, Dwyane Wade, Derek Jeter, Floyd Mayweather and LeBron James are talking about you, the drumbeat gets loud.

all star games are for fans.

if fans want to see a 45 year old shaq, put him in. if fans want to see lin, put him in.
