TIM WAKEFIELD ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
trans.gif
February 17, 2012 – Tim Wakefield, known for his unpredictable and often uncatchable knuckleballs, will announce his retirement tonight after 19 Major League seasons, including 17 with the Red Sox.

Wakefield will make his announcement at 5 p.m. ET today on the field at JetBlue Park, the club's new Spring Training facility in Fort Myers, FL. The press conference will be carried live on redsox.com.

Wakefield won 10 or more games 11 times, and he helped guide the Red Sox to eight playoff appearances. He was a member of Boston's World Series championship teams in 2004 and '07.

His numbers weren't the greatest but he was a class act both on and off the field.
Really wish they would have signed for one more year.

Wakefield retires this week, Varitek retires next week.....

Sox fans have gotta be disappointed he wont be coming back... his ERA probably would have been up around 6 this year

Yeah it'd probably be just a tad higher than Oswalts this year. But we'd be paying him 8 million dollars less.....

word up

Here in St Petersburg, Rays fans will be sorry to see him go

While TW racked up an awesome run of success against them through 2007, the past four years the Rays worked him harder than a cheap whore at Mardi Gras
