This is getting ridiculous.
I cant even get a hair cut without someone asking me my life history anymore.

I go to Academy they want my ZIPCODE.
Go to best buy they want your ZIPCODE and phone number.

I just got back from getting a hair cut they want my zip code, phone number and email address.

And listen to this: It gets better.
After getting my haircut and the lady asking me for my email, phone number, and zipcode. I politely told her I am not giving you that info.

She then tells me that I have to give it to her:lolBIG:

I just laughed at her and told her no I dont.
She said yes I have to give it to her for her records, its not a choice.
LOLOL.

I then told her do you want my $20 for the haircut or or not because you are not getting the other info.

She must be new. Her customer service skills really sucked.

I am tired of being asked every damm question under the sun when I use your business.

I know you use this info for market search but geezzz.

I hope you will realize that there are many people like me that feel like this is none of your business.

If I want you to have my email address I will give it to you.

Dont ask me what my phone number is for a hair cut.

Im not buying a house here.

Its time for these companies to shut there mouth and mind there own business and try to figure out other ways to acquire there market research and mailing list.

The zip code thing I don't mind, but I normally don't give out any other info.

on my first few visits to the US (in the 90s) it went like this

zip code? / answer 1100

"what????" / answer "I dont live in the US":

"the computer NEEDS a zip code, what is it" , "ok fine put 11111"

"ugh" :)

now I just give them zip codes that are familiar to me

I almost always use the local papa johns phone number and my old college email address, or just decline to divulge the info.

Canned response which has never failed

"You don't need it"

Upon occasion they will mention something like, "Well if you lose the receipt and need to return...."

I simply tell them I don't lose receipts

For zip code I give them 90210, which still gets the occasional smile.

Other requests just get a "No, thanks" from me.

Was asked this at Toys R Us not long ago for my phone number, I started to say it but then stopped and asked why she needed it. She just said it was ok I didn't provide it. This is stupid.

I'm a privacy person, but asking for zip code could lead to them opening a store in your own zip code if they see enough customers from there and other factors.

If it's a store I like and there's a chance of getting one closer to home, I'm all for giving them my zip code.

i just got a haircut and feel like i went through a background check.

gave my phone number at the door to pull up my name. but once the haircut started, it was like question after question. i know they are probably asking these questions to make the time less akward while they cut your hair or to show some interest in the customer. but asking what are you doing today? must be off of work then? so where do you work? do you like it? did you just move back to area? do you have any siblings out here etc
