I work in oil and gas. I am actually working for 2 different clients right now pulling in a day rate for both, so I will still be okay financially. Just sucks because I have been with this company for a long time and the owner was dicked over hard. Our company does work for Chesapeake Energy and they let cut our broker so my whole company lost their job.

Hopefully I will hit a $100 10 team parlay tonight to make up for!

Sorry to hear the news. I've been there before. I know the feeling. Stings.

Being in oil and gas, I'm sure it won't be long before you grab another gig to fill the void.

Yeah already have an offer from another company for a day rate of $450 and an old friend called me once he heard the news and offered me some side work. The BAD thing about this is that the company that I was laid off from I worked solely from home. I was able to move with my wife when she landed her news anchor gig and still work from that job, and picked up a client here where we moved to. Double salary was nice for a while, but don't know if I will still be able to do that with a new client. Going to be tough to find another company that most of the work is done online.

That being said, I am not going to fret over it. Losing 7k a month in salary (for the time being) is going to make us change our lifestyle but it is what it is. It could be much worse and I could be out of a job completely. Actually said a prayer a second ago and thanked god that he had found a way for me while so many struggle for work.

Just more upset because our company had 150+ at one time and due to layoffs we were currently down to only 17. Those 17 have been my close friends for almost a decade. Just sucks to see it happen this way.

Also, we had just made plans to move to LA at years end but we wanted to made sure we had enough saved up to do it. My wife has done some work for the Ellen show and for E! TV and we decided to make the move so she could chase her dream of doing entertainment news. Might have to be put on the backburner for a while.

I am a big believer though in having faith and believing that god has a plan. When this other job was offered to me months ago I was so excited. Looking back on it I think it was gods way of looking out for me because he knew this other job was coming to an end.

By the way, if any of you are looking for work or considering a career, you might want to look into becoming a landman. Once you get a little experience you can make $350 a DAY minimum and most of the times you can do work for multiple clients. At one point years ago I had 3 different clients and was making about $1100 a day on my day rate and that wasn't even adding in mileage and food.

Though I have a degree from TCU in Marketing one is not needed. There are a TON of companies out there willing to hire you with no experience. Got my first job doing landman work while I was still in college. Started out at $175 a day plus $25 per diem and then mileage. They let me work 7 days a week even while in college.

So it may be something to look into for any of you that are interested in a career change, don't mind traveling, and don't have experience.

I don't wanna sound like an ass but I don't think god gives a shit whether you have a job or not..... The reason you'll get another job is because you deserve it, your a hard worker, your smart, a go getter and you wont give up! You will get another job, not because of god but because you bust your ass!

Everybody in Ft. Worth was a landman a few years ago it seemed, and the rest were working on rigs. I have a few friends that work for XTO, and a few friends that moved to keep their jobs, the rest got laid off 3-4 years ago. My wife worked for Arrington and Quicksilver awhile back. Good money, but like you said you gotta be willing to move if your gonna stay in it

Yeah. Actually surprised I lasted this long, considering probably AT LEAST 70% of those working the Barnett have been laid off of transferred at this point. I never was looking to make a career out of this, however since I started during college to pay my way through school I just stuck with it. Actually looking to get into medical sales, so I can finally use my degree. More than likely will try and pick up another client though and keep doing the landman thing for the next 6 months though because we are consiering a move to Hollywood.

Yea, I would imagine it would be hard to walk away from considering the pay and I can't speak for you but most of my friends were only working about half a day, most days.

You need to put that $250k education to use! Jk...GL man

Haha, most EVERY land man only works about a half day. I have got caught up in the money aspect of it but finally just realized I don't care for it anymore. I know I know, people are going to tell me nobody likes going to work. That being said, I grew up in wanting to be in the medical field and my degree is in marketing. So figured I might could tolerate the medical sales field. Have a couple of feelers out right now with some contacts I have in that. I do feel like I need to put my education to use. Fuck I am paying back loans and I worked my ass off in college at my just so I could pay for rent and all the other shit that goes along with it. Feel like I am just wasting all that money and effort not using my degree.

I dont feel sorry for you at all.. you're not hurting, there are 1000s of people out there that are actually hurting without any paycheck looking for work for a long time. Losing their homes and pets etc.

You said you still work on the side for 2 other guys...
