The Houston Texans will officially part ways with the former USC quarterback on Tuesday, ending a disappointing two-year career that saw him play in only two games there.

The 2004 Heisman Trophy winner, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals at the end of the 2010 preseason, made his first appearance for Houston in Week 10 last season in relief of an injured Matt Schaub. Leinart was named the starter when Schaub was diagnosed with a season-ending foot fracture during the Texans' bye week. But his career as a No. 1 didn't last very long — Leinart injured his shoulder in the Week 12 game against Jacksonville on Nov. 27 and was out for the year.

That opened the door for promising rookie T.J. Yates, who started the final six games for the Texans, completing 61 percent of his passes with three touchdowns, three interceptions and four fumbles. Yates became the Texans’ third starting quarterback in three games last season, but now appears to be a solid No. 2 behind Schaub.

The Texans are sticking with Schaub in 2012, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday, and will not pursue free agent Peyton Manning.

Leinart, 28, was the 10th overall pick of the Cardinals in the 2006 NFL Draft and was tabbed to be the franchise’s starter. But he lost his job to veteran Kurt Warner in Arizona because of inconsistent play.

Not really but Sean Payton has always had a hardon for him.
If we would not have signed Brees we would have drafted him.

He has the perfect skill set for the Saints offense.
That does not make him good though.
Jamarcus Russell had the greatest skill set in the history of football.
Look where that got him.

Released quarterback Matt Leinart rips critical fans

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 10:58 am by Nick Mathews in General

Backup quarterback Matt Leinart will be cut today to free up $1.75 million in cap money.
Many fans — chron.com comment writers and Twitter users — applauded the move and were critical of the former Heisman Trophy winner.
“It’s nothing personal Matt, the NFL is a business and the Texans like any other team want to win,” wrote PiPster83 in our comment section. “Lets all be honest and tell it how it is… you were a bust bro and now its time to free up some $$ to (accrue) other weapons to accomplish this goal. … Good Luck though.”
Among the Leinart slams on Twitter: “@MattLeinartQB Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out of #Houston,” wrote Couch Potato Hero.
Leinart fired back at his critics on Twitter.
“It’s funny to me how people can be so ignorant and opinionated on topics they know nothing about,” he wrote on Twitter.
He then wrote: “I love my fans and am thankful for you all. … To the others.”
And he included a picture with this saying:
“Someone who hates you normally hates you for oneo f three reasons. They either see you as a threat. They hate themselves. Or they want to be you.”
