But the story was even bigger than that. Johnson’s assault on the Tropicana was merely the latest in a series of blitzes he’d made on Atlantic City’s gambling establishments. In the four previous months, he’d taken $5 million from the Borgata casino and another $4 million from Caesars. Caesars had cut him off, he says, and then effectively banned him from its casinos worldwide.

$6 million from Tropicana
$5 million from Borgata
$4 million from Caesars

Maybe.

"JOHNSON SAYS HIS LIFE hasn’t really changed all that much. He hasn’t bought himself anything big, and still lives in the same house in Bensalem. But in the past year, he has hung out with Jon Bon Jovi and Charlie Sheen, sprayed the world’s most expensive bottle of champagne on a crowd of clubgoers in London, and hosted a Las Vegas birthday bash for Pamela Anderson. He is enjoying his fame in gambling circles, and has gotten used to flying around the world on comped jets. Everybody wants to play against the most famous blackjack player in the world."

It's the same guy... guess they are repeating the story because the Trop will still let him Play.

In the Long Run, they should Beat him. But they haven't.

According to the article, once he got the house edge down to .25% "In effect, he was playing a 50-50 game against the house." The author is definitely not a math major.

"April 2012" is the date of this particular issued magazine.

Don't you ever get magazines in the mail in March with a April date on them? I do.

Good point.

Might actually be a 50:50 game with that kind of house edge...depends on stuff like deck penetration, which work in his favor and can move that kind of house edge into a +EV situation.

The only way one can turn a negative game into a positive one by deck penetration is to Wong in and out; according to the article he was playing in the high limit area so if he were doing this he'd be spotted and booted in a minute.

I'm sure this has happened many times before with these high rollers. Even more likely is that there are many people who have lost this much in the same time period.

He doesn't necessarily have to move in & out of tables, if he gets the house edge down into these regions, even a decent betting spread would be enough to turn this into a slightly +EV game if he is able to count the game...add in comps and possible specialized deals some highrollers get and it's even more lucrative for him.
In the end it would be no different for him than any other card counter out there....

The article stated that he wasn't counting.
