Im going to temporary get out of my nice CHOPTALK mode for this thread.
You people that constantly bash ESPN is really starting to bother me.
Its funny how people on this board especially considering the fact that the people on this board probably watch more ESPN then 99.999% of the rest of the general population.
"ESPN dont care about March Madness"
"ESPN talks about the same 4 baseball teams"
"ESPN talks about the same 4 football teams"
"ESPN talks about Tebow too much"
"ESPN has a bunch of idiots that dont know sports"
"ESPN said something bad about my favorite team"
The list goes on
and on and on and on
Do you honestly think ESPN has no vested interest in the NCAA tourney?
I can make the case they have more vested interest long term in the NCAA tourney then even CBS does.
CBS does not live and die by college basketball.
ESPN on the other hand dedicates over 20000 hours a year broadcasting college basketball games.
If March Madness becomes marginalized how many people do you think will want to watch all those regular season games ESPN payed for for the next 10years?
Does everyone remember what sports television was like before ESPN made it mainstream?
Lets see.
One College Football game a week.
It was either Notre Dame or Alabama.
The NBA finals was tape delayed.
If you were lucky maybe you got to see 2 college basketball games a season.
Baseball had 1 game of the week.
Football you got to see your hometeam play if you lived withen 200 miles of the home team. Otherwise you would never get to see your team play unless they came on Monday Night Football.
You would not even get to see highlights of the game unless Howard Cossel deemed them to be worthy of the 2 min highlights reel they showed on Monday night football.
No SportsCenter.
No 24 hours sports radio stations which ESPN made famous and main stream.
Now I was not around during that dark period, but it happened.
Now because of ESPN you can watch any College Football game you can imagine.
If I wanted to Watch IDAHO play North DaKota St I can do that.
Do I love every agenda ESPN puts out there?
No
Do I think they talk a little too much about certain teams?
Yes
Do I think they try to make sports into a soap opra at times?
Yes
But is that any reason to not look at the big picture and realize that ESPN is the greatest thing that's ever happened to broadcast sports?
NO
So in conclusion, for all you people that say you hate ESPN with a passion do me this little favor:
How about you go 90 straight days without watching ESPN or any of there sister stations and see how you get along.
Im talking ESPN1, 2, 3, News, U. Gameplan. Anything associated with ESPN do not watch for 90 days.
I bet you will find out ESPN is not so bad afterall.
