Im going to temporary get out of my nice CHOPTALK mode for this thread.

You people that constantly bash ESPN is really starting to bother me.

Its funny how people on this board especially considering the fact that the people on this board probably watch more ESPN then 99.999% of the rest of the general population.

"ESPN dont care about March Madness"
"ESPN talks about the same 4 baseball teams"
"ESPN talks about the same 4 football teams"
"ESPN talks about Tebow too much"
"ESPN has a bunch of idiots that dont know sports"
"ESPN said something bad about my favorite team"

The list goes on
and on and on and on

Do you honestly think ESPN has no vested interest in the NCAA tourney?
I can make the case they have more vested interest long term in the NCAA tourney then even CBS does.

CBS does not live and die by college basketball.

ESPN on the other hand dedicates over 20000 hours a year broadcasting college basketball games.

If March Madness becomes marginalized how many people do you think will want to watch all those regular season games ESPN payed for for the next 10years?

Does everyone remember what sports television was like before ESPN made it mainstream?

Lets see.

One College Football game a week.

It was either Notre Dame or Alabama.

The NBA finals was tape delayed.

If you were lucky maybe you got to see 2 college basketball games a season.

Baseball had 1 game of the week.

Football you got to see your hometeam play if you lived withen 200 miles of the home team. Otherwise you would never get to see your team play unless they came on Monday Night Football.

You would not even get to see highlights of the game unless Howard Cossel deemed them to be worthy of the 2 min highlights reel they showed on Monday night football.

No SportsCenter.
No 24 hours sports radio stations which ESPN made famous and main stream.

Now I was not around during that dark period, but it happened.

Now because of ESPN you can watch any College Football game you can imagine.

If I wanted to Watch IDAHO play North DaKota St I can do that.

Do I love every agenda ESPN puts out there?
No

Do I think they talk a little too much about certain teams?
Yes

Do I think they try to make sports into a soap opra at times?
Yes

But is that any reason to not look at the big picture and realize that ESPN is the greatest thing that's ever happened to broadcast sports?
NO

So in conclusion, for all you people that say you hate ESPN with a passion do me this little favor:

How about you go 90 straight days without watching ESPN or any of there sister stations and see how you get along.

Im talking ESPN1, 2, 3, News, U. Gameplan. Anything associated with ESPN do not watch for 90 days.

I bet you will find out ESPN is not so bad afterall.

Stop reading because the post is way too long. They won't stop bombarding me with Manning updates and I just want to see a few game highlights. Watching Seinfeld instead now

20000 hours, considering there is 8760 hours in year, I doubt they are that much in to college hoops as you claim.

The reason people watch ESPN is for live sports only, Nobody likes to hear about the wanna be comedian sportscasters.

it's just background noise

Much better than CNN or soap operas. Not as good as Springer and Maury

Giving more coverage to Manning and Howard than the tournament games is ridiculous

Have you considered the fact that there are many ESPN channels who show different games at the same time?

Crackers in a parallel universe? I thought that was exactly what bigtendominator was saying. ESPN is sliding into 'The Bachelor' territory awarding roses to the biggest tit sports story and spreading their 'sportscaster spawn' all over the predictable pablum. Meanwhile bottom feeders like Versus continue to do a great job covering under-covered sports.

Only watch ESPN on Sundays during the NFL season and during March Madness.

They really have lost what made them great.

the only problem i have with the complainers is they still watch it, even though they whine and moan about it.

Not being a Basketball Fan, I haven't watched Espn since the Superbowl.. For me there is no reason to watch until Sept. NFL Network does a better job now with the draft and all the free agency moves, and MLB Network is 100 times better than anything Espn offers regarding baseball.........

Espn is just a bunch of haters on anything they don't have exclusive rights over. Collin Coward was going on and on how college basketball doesn't matter anymore the other day. They all hated on the NHL too when they left for NBC (formally Versus) . So Espn deserves all the hate they get.

I could do that Chop. They don't offer anything i cant get elsewhere in the next 90 days. Every person on SC has some gimmick. Whatever happened to reporting the news and not creating it? Its all about personalities and the ESPN Brand now. No surprise since Disney owns them. The story about them firing the employee about Lin was a joke too. If you do not conform there, you will be fired. The whole Craig James deal was an embarrassment, would love to see Mike Leach sue ESPN.

ESPN is what it is. When they became a publicy traded company they had to start thinking more like a business. Which means offering things outside of spectator sports, like commentaries and opinions. So they went out and hired talking heads like Colin Cowherd for ESPN radio, whose sole purpose is basically just to rub people the wrong way and piss them off. And Skip Bayless, whose mission is to make sure he offers an opinion that is opposite of the public. And the more radical and controversial it is, the better. Personally I hope they keep doing what their doing, like offering their mostly wrong opinions on college football on Saturday's and steering the public the wrong way. I win more bets off of their mostly clueless commentators than any other network. The only one that I feel knows halfway what he's taling about is Kirk Herbsteit. But he's a football analysis who actually visits team camps and does his homework before he opens his mouth. Although he's also been know to be wrong at times.

here's my take on espn,i used to love it,i could not wait to turn it on but seriously the last few years have been really disgusting to me.they started to focus on a certain subject and dwell on it forever and forget about the interest in other sports.

the FAVRE shit really got to me,it was horrible ,day after day, week after week the same headlines,FAVRE,FAVRE,FAVRE.it just always seems to be something anymore and they just wear us out with it.don't get me wrong i still watch it a lot but after i hear what i want to hear im gone.

i also hate some of the hosts they have on there doing special sports assignments, most of them are horrible and i can't listen to them.some of the people doing the games are sickening to,i hate doris burke or what ever her name is and i don't believe in females announcing mens games in football, basketball,or baseball its just not right.

im sure there is more i dislike about them and i have sent them e-mails about my concerns so do think for a minute they don't hear from me.they are just to overwhelming anymore

I don't have a problem with that. Some things like 30 for 30 and Outside the Lines are great. Its the 167 mentions of Tebow on SC that drives people nuts. Also the constant showing of Denard Robinson highlights vs ND two months later at the expense of hockey coverage (since they dont cover it) that drives me nuts.
