Wow, I thought they were going to lose a first round pick and fined $1 million. I didn't realize Goodell was going to take out his whoopin stick and throw down this kind of punishment.

Payton suspended 1 year with out pay
Williams suspended indefinitely.

I don't know who Goodell thinks his clientele is but damn is he turning the NFL in to a pansy league. I understand having a bounty system looks bad and they should be punished just from the pure stupidity of documenting it, but that is just football. Even in high school the defense in the locker room talks about inflicting pain on the other team. That's the whole point of playing defense.

Let the pansification continue!! Bet Goodell is a liberal!

I don't get it....way too harsh. Dafinch only got 6 months for trying to hurt rich white guys....payton gets a year? Not fair.

Well said, it seems Goodell is trying to make a name for himself still? Talk about an identiy complex? Paul T was good, he got the salary cap and made football explode, Goodel's legacy will be what? Pussifing the league to the point players and refs alike dont know whats a legal hit or not anymore.

LOL!! That was a harsh penalty, they should have suspended him for a week and took away his right to use emoticons! That would have been fair!

But taking a devil's advocate point of view, Goodell is dealing with the lawsuit from all those past players that now have major depression and their brains are swiss cheese from too many hits. Not sure what you can do about that. They are all grown men though, they know what they are signing up for. I don't know how much more pussification I can take though... after watching the Rangers and Devils drop gloves on the opening face off it makes the NFL seem like a bunch of pansies. Penalty is way too harsh. Couple draft picks, a fine, and maybe a suspension to Williams would have sufficed.

I didn't see any racism or death threats....I thought those were the guidelines....not sure what caused the suspension....prob because of crybaby old men like russ complaining to mods.

had to send a message and im a saint fan and like payton...nfl makes rule changes every year to protect players and the saints are running a bounty program........hes lucky it wasnt a lifetime ban

The Saints got what they deserved and it sends a message. How could a HC be dumb enough to let this get out anyway. I wonder if they watched films and pin pointed specific hits etc. Surely they had to document the fact that it went on in some way. Maybe they should put a bounty on Goodell.

I think they should of been fired and banned from the NFL for life caz they supported, condone, and encourged that there criminal activity imo! What they did be wrong and bad if true.

I wonder what the players are going to get? And how dumb can you be toput the bounties in writing. This will really hurt the saints offense imo Peyton is the best play caller in the game right now.

I think the punishment fits the crime. One reason Commish was so hard (according to the media), was he cowardly tried to lie his way out of it. I am really suprised he didnt get a lifetime ban. Purposely trying injure an opponent and get rewarded for it is just flat out sorry. Peyton is a bitch, got pimp slapped, and got a new rep for being a liar all in one.

yeah, I recently learned of Payton's cover up attempts.. that changes my opinion slightly. however goodell is still a little bitch.

At least Goodell has grown some balls. Being the Commish of any sport, your going to be hated. He has drawn a line and will not back away. I commend him on that.....any of the other major sports can't say the same.
