I wanna start off by saying hello RXers, it's been a while. I haven't been active on the forums other than the occasional "lurk" since 2009, but the story I just heard perplexed me and you guys are the only ones I trust to verify this.

So an old girlfriend of mine calls me today and claims she won $11,000 at a black jack table in the Bahamas. She then tells me they paid her in MONEY ORDERS. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? She wanted me to give her advice on what to do with them...didn't really have much of an answer. She said she was gonna go to the bank and see what happens. She hasn't called me back with the results.

I used to date this girl a long time ago and none of this story checks out to me. For one, this girl has never gambled in her life. She also doesn't have the money to be gambling like that. She has a history with drug use and I worry this is some kind of psychopathic meltdown.

I'm hoping that she's telling the truth and everything is fine.

Money Orders can be forged so if she is asking you to buy them or something its pretty easy to just say Hell No. Thats the only reason i can think of she would even need to tell you about them. She will call back and say the bank wants to put a hold on the money and that instead she will sell them to you for say .75 on the dollar. You deposit them, find out they are fake and never hear from her again....

Unbelievably the story is true! She went to Bank of America and opened a new account. They didn't hassle her too much but there were some supervisors and phone calls involved. Didn't get the name of the casino yet.

Never heard of this scenerio, and it sounds awefully sketchy to say the least. Casinos pay in hard cash IMO. Money orders?:think2:

I hope your girlfriend doesn't get burned. She should NOT take any money out of the $11,000 for at least a month. The money orders will need to clear, especially if they were generated by a Bahamian bank or other issuer.

Tread carefully. Sounds bogus.

B of A will open an account to anyone with the right documentation.

Tell your girlfriend NOT to touch any of this mythical $11,000 for at least 1 month. Let B of A due their due dilligence on the money orders and see if they clear.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probable is. No "decent" well known casino pays in money orders.

good advise here. i was had about 10 years ago with $4,000 in money orders. waited about 2 weeks before spending the money. bought a new tv and some upgrades to my car. few days later i found out the money orders were returned. 100% fake

dont spend the money right away
