Dennis Rodman 'broke,' 'extremely sick,' his attorney says

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman is "extremely sick," "broke" and is in no position to pay hefty child and spousal support payments, according to court documents.

Rodman is behind in his payments and faces a court hearing Tuesday in Orange. He faces up to 20 days in jail for failure to pay spousal and child support, according to an attorney for his ex-wife.

As of March 1, Rodman, 51, owed $808,935 in back child support for the 9- and 10-year-old children that he had with his third wife, Michelle Rodman, said her attorney, Jack Kayajanian, in court documents.

The attorneys who have represented him to date have worked pro bono, Willis said.

"Respondent Dennis Rodman is broke and cannot afford any additional fees," according to court documents filed on his behalf.

He is "extremely sick" and his marketability is diminishing with age and illness, according to court documents.

(I'm assuming his illness is related to substance abuse of some kind. I saw him at a sports celebrity dinner a couple of years ago and he was a mess.)

I ran into Rodman at the Mandalay Bay about 10 years ago. Was the night before the Lewis-Rahman rematch. Rodman was supposed to be hosting a party in the China Grill. However, he was stumbling around a bar nearby with his wife Michelle (I believe it was the Coral Reef Lounge). He was wearing a bright yellow zoot suit and matching fedora; his wife was showing off her big boobs and wearing a huge white rabbit hat (i.e. Alice in Wonderland).

There was a band playing and they made the mistake of inviting Rodman on stage. He grabbed a microphone when the band started playing "Get Up" by James Brown. He started singing and wouldn't stop. After a couple of runs through "Get Up", the band tried to get him to leave, but he wouldn't. After about a 45 minutes, the fire alarm mysteriously went off, and Rodman left the stage.

The whole episode provided some hilarious entertainment for me and my dad. Rodman at his finest.

About 5 years ago I used to work near the Quizno's he used to frequent. A couple of the guys I worked with saw him there (I never did) and didn't say anything about him looking bad. He must have done a lot of abuse to himself if he went down in just 5 years. I guess it doesn't take long.

I have no sympathy for this boy. He must have made at least 100 million in his career, now he's broke ! Unbelievable !!!

Maybe all these pro athletes should have mandatory clauses in their contracts where they must leave part of their multi-millions to be paid out as an annuity of 200k a year for life ?
