Didn't have time to grab your daily cuppa joe this morning? No worries. Now you can make freshly brewed espresso in your car.
French company Handpresso has produced the very first coffee maker that plugs directly into your cigarette lighter — or anywhere you need a quick caffeine fix. In just two minutes, the portable machine, no bigger than your average thermos, brews a creamy cup. All you do is pour water into the thermos, place a coffee pod over the mouth (you have to purchase the accessories), then screw on the top, hit the "on" button, and voila! Fresh, hot, premium espresso without leaving your front seat.
Created by Henrik Jul Nielsen, the innovative Handpresso launched in 2008 and has gained popularity throughout Europe. While this machine is not yet available in the U.S., the outdoor version (for those who crave espresso at a picnic or camping trip), which is powered by a hand pump, is sold online at importika.com for $199.99. That set comes with a black carrying case, four cups, the flask, a domepod, and two small napkins for spillage. The Handpresso Auto is sold on the company's website, but does not ship to the U.S.
Hopefully it will be available soon. Then you'll never fall asleep while driving again. Just remember to keep your eyes on the road. Or better yet, pull over before you start your brew.
