I have Verizen DSL using a Westell modem. my pc started saying Limited connectivity yesterday and I couldnt get on the internet. Verizen couldnt help me on the phone and sent a guy to my house to check my phone and set up. All he did was tighten my phone jack and check the wiring.
Now all the lights on my modem are lit steady green and the pc says local and internet, but I still dont have internet access. I ran a check on the system and the modem and it says everything is working fine. updated all the drivers. I cant figure it out. Is my modem broken? doesnt seem to be. Any Ideas would be very helpful as I can only access this forum from my cell now, lol.
Thanks guys

right click on your connection and hit repair/diagnose or troubleshooting options. See what it says. Im assuming the guy they sent rebooted your modem or they asked you too on the phone. If not unplug the power to the modem and leave it unplugged for a few minutes then plug it back in

Solid troubleshooting advice. A full reboot of your computer also might help.

By the way, are you using a wireless router? If so, you might want to unplug this for a couple of minutes as well.

First thing first is to verify if you have an ip address on your pc and if you can ping a website...here are some quick info...

1) Verify you have an ethernet cable connected from your pc to your westell modem...make sure it goes to one of your LAN ports...
2) Open up a dos window on your pc by typing "cmd" at Start and Search space
3) at the c:\users\xxx> prompt, type "ipconfig /all"
4) Look under Ethernet adapter and IPv4 Address, you should have an ip address i.e. 192.168.1.x
5) Start a ping test....type "ping www.yahoo.com"...you should have some "reply" messages...
6) if steps 4 and 5 fail, you need to fix it before proceed further...

You can list what you have on step 4 here and i can help you further...

Good Luck..

Usually with DSL you need to install a filter so it doesn't interfere with your phone line...mention that to Verizon when you're on the phone with them...

interesting, never heard of that (and I work as high level tech where we see all sorts of mayhem)

open a command prompt (same as you did to run the ping) and run this command

netsh int ip reset.txt

this will do two things, reset the tcp/ip stack and create a log file (it will be in "my documents" folder)

hopefully the command will help you but if not post the contents of the file
