I am new to the "sports betting" scene and I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right forum.

I was wondering if there is a website that just caters to "straight bets" (just pick the winning team in a game). I know that there are sites out there that have "straight bet" options but it seems that you always have to bet more to win less. for Example: You have to wager $110 to win $100.

Now, I was wondering... If there was such a thing as straight bets, where you bet $100.. win $100, would you play that over the traditional way of betting "straight bets"?

just curious

are you wanting to bet 100 dollars that kentucky will win today, and if they do you get 100 for being right?

No Such Animal Unless the "Odds" are Even ( Meaning +100 )

If you Look at each Sport, you will see that the NBA, NCAA BB & FB, and the NFL All have Spreads. Spreads that look like , Kentucky -8.5, Ohio St -2.5, etc
That means that Team MUST win by that many Points. You Lay -110 to win $100
It's Called a VIG. This is How the Bookmakers make their Money.

Of course there are M/L = Money Line
Unless you can find a Game that is +100 on the Money Line. You will more than likely have to put up JUICE on a Game. Team could be -150 to Out right Win a game
Meaning you will lay $150 to win $100

Or you can Play a DOG = Underdog , if you think that Team will Win Outright
You will probably get something like +130 on the Above Game where the Favorite is -150
Here you will Lay $100 to Win $130

IF you want to Only Risk $100 on a Game, then you can just Use that Number as a "RISK Amount" $100 to Win $90.91, or let's take the Ohio St. Game, -145..... Risk $100 to Win $68.97....something along those lines.

You weren't joking about being a newbie. Best thing to do is run far away from sportsbetting. You will lose a lot in the learning phase and likely still lose or maybe win tiny amounts after years of practice. There are easier ways to speculate and more enjoyable and less expensive hobbies.

Is it really that obvious Illini that I'm a newbe... ha ha ha... wow, thats not good...

I only placed one bet in my life with a bookie and lost and didn't like the fact that I had to pay the juice. So I stopped and only placed "even bets" with my friends. So I just thought I would check to see if there is a website online that offers the same style even bets but as betallsports stated... there is no such animal.

Just play underdogs in moneyline sports like baseball. Ex. Royals (+1.50) @ Twins, Royals win and you win $150, never will have to pay the juice.

As BAS said, the books are effectively "match-makers".

Person A (you) likes the New York Yankees and wants to bet $100
Person B likes the Boston Red-Sox and wants to bet $100

The book charges the loser of the bet $10 in order to be the broker in-between person A and person B. That is called the Vig, Vigorish, Juice, et al.

That $10 also covers the fact that there may be no Person B, and the book-maker needs act as Person B if he is unable to match the bet. In the long run, ultimately the book becomes Person B as most wagers don't come in with each side having equal action.

Now, as nojuice9 pointed out above, if you are willing to play the underdog in a game, you can actually wager $100 and win $110, $120, $150, even $200 or more.

When looking at lines, you may see NY Yankees -$150 / Boston RedSox +$140. In this case, if you wager $100 on Boston, you would win $140, however, if you want to wager on the Yankees, you'll need to bet $150 to win $100. In this case, you're playing the "percieved odds" of the yankees winning/losing and "vig", which is the $10 difference between $140 and $150. Generally speaking, the higher the perceived odds, the greater the spread (vig) between the bets. Example, if you could see The New York Yankees -$220 / Boston Red Sox +$180.

Only God knows the "true odds" of one team beating the other. The books price and payout gives you the "perceived odds" - generally, the book factors into the equation what people "think" about a team's capabilities of beating another team. Teams like the Yankees / Lakers / Cowboys, generally have a higher than actual line as they are "public" teams with lots of followers who will blindly bet on "their team".

Before you ever make any bets, as a newbie you should read this forum for at least a year and have a season or two of tracking with fake money to see if there's any real chance of you making money. 95% of the people who gamble lose. Now, if you want to do it for recreational purposes only, betting $5.00 here and there, I don't see much harm in it, but if you really want to do anything with this sit back, read each sub-forum here on each sport you're looking to play and learn, learn learn.

Good luck.

EVERYBODY pays a vig, one way or another..
