Need to get a little advice if anyone knows what I can do in this situation .... got a speeding ticket today and here in Illinois the state police take your drivers license to ensure you pay the ticket I guess .... so now I have no drivers license and am traveling on Friday out of town and need a rental car when I get to Kansas City .... what can I do without my drivers license .... didn' think of this at the time of the ticket being issued and before I get my DL back now will have to wait until the ticket is paid and then they return the license to you .... anyone have any ideas on how I can get a rental car without my drivers license?? The trooper said my copy of the ticket serves as my license for now, but don't think the rental car company will accept that??

I've never heard of the police taking your license unless you got a DUI. Even then, they mail you a temporary one until you go to court.

Since your rental car company is in your state, I'm sure they've come across this situation before. Still never heard of the state police taking away your license for a speeding ticket. Most states if you don't pay your ticket(s), they just hold up your renewal until you clear up your tickets.

What do they do when they give an out of state driver a ticket for speeding? Surely they don't take away his license!

I also have never heard of the state police taking your drivers license for a speeding ticket, but after talking with a few other people here in Chicago I guess it is the norm to ensure you pay your ticket .... don't think my copy of the ticket is going to suffice even though that is what the trooper told me would work as my license for time being .... wondering if I can go to the drivers license center tomorrow and get a duplicate copy of my license or will they already have that info from the police and not give me one?? Looking for any other ideas and/or thoughts if anyone has any??

In Illinois, you get a couple choices when getting a ticket. First option is having your drivers license taken, no required court appearance and a mail in fine or pay at a circuit clerk's office. Second, is provide a valid bond card (AAA, Allstate Roadside) and you get your licence back, no court, mail in fine. Both of these you get your license mailed back to you. As you can pay cash at the officer's police station upon reciept of the ticket.

Another option is an I-Bond (Individual Bond). You sign the ticket (Not admitting guilt, just promise to show up), a court date is mandatory and you will have to show up. Plead guilty or not and upon payment or dismissal you get your license on the spot. A no show in court gets a bench warrant issued for you.

In Illinois, like all states, drivers licenses are not a right, they are a priviledge. So, yes a law enforcement officer can take and keep you license for traffic offenses unless you were offered one of the above options. And it will be returned to you upon completion of your traffic case. Keep your ticket on your person because that is now your license until this case is settled.

Not this time of year. Spring rains flooded my living room the last 3 springs.

I found an area over by the Waffle House on high ground.

Not much shade, and the smell from the dumpster upsets the cats, ......... but it's only until June or so, so it's not that bad.
