I am 73 yrs old & had a complete physical in Dec/11 & my glucose count was up a little. The Dr. mentioned a few things of what not to eat, i decided to stop drinking regular soda pop after drinking it for over 68 years or so & cut back on eating red meats & switched from white bread to wheat bread & quit eating chips, pretzels, fries & other fast foods & to eat at subway in place of using fast foods & started drinking water & a couple of Bud Lite's nightly, along with eating fish & chicken, as i read on yahoo that a couple of beer's a night is better for you than drinking wine as it helps with diabetis, heart problems & other medical conditions. I visited my Dr, for another blood test recently to check my glucose count, it went from 128 in Dec/11 to 92 in april/12, my Blood Pressure went from 145/82[with meds] to 122/62 , i lost 14 pounds dropping from 190 to 176, i thought that was a little light weight for me as i am 6ft tall, but my Dr. said that was a very good weight for me, i also visited my cardiologist & he said that was the best examination that i have ever had , as i have been going to him for about 10 years or so. As you can understand i am elated with the results from just changing a little from what i used to eat/drink to what i eat/drink now. I hope i don't come down with some health problem now.

Very glad to hear that you are in good health. There is an old saying "You Are What You Eat!" and you are a perfect example of the truth in the statement. Continued well being in the many, many years to come! (<)<

Great job sparticus :toast:

Wish I could do it .... and keep it up.

I usually start out ok for 4-5 weeks, then blow it.
Cut back on Diet Soda, drinking more crystal light ( because i hate the taste of water )
Eat Whole wheat Pizza, which I Love.... but once in a while I need that Italian Bread with a load of Cold Cuts :)

One day I'll get on track :103631605

spart, you are right about will power. I think the important thing is changing what you eat and making it a regular thing. Too many times people will try a diet and stop later. But you mention some things that most people can change like simply cutting out sugar soda and cutting out white starches. It's not that difficult. Other things may come later.

BAS, don't get discouraged. Allow yourself to splurge once in awhile. Have that Italian bread with cold cuts every now and then.

But just the fact that you have changed from diet soda to crystal light is an improvement. I cut out soda and now drink diet tea exclusively. Eating whole wheat pizza is another step.

Baby steps, baby steps.

michael777,Thanks, enjoy life as much as possible as it is too short,gl.

rgorr, Thank you for your pleasant reply.

BAS, Hell, you are on the right track, nothing wrong with what you said about what you eat & drink & about having a nice sandwhich once in a while. I treat myself every sat. evening to a small 6 piece pizza with pepperoni, sausage & ground meat, along with drinking 2 bud lites every evening, that is my reward for eating & drinking the proper things all week, keep it up bud,gl.

I think diet is more important then exercise. You could work out everyday for hours and if you eat a ton of red meat and other crap which causes you to have high Cholesterol you are gonna kick the bucket faster then someone who eats great and works out a little bit.

This is a great story Sparticus.

I am sure you were so excited when you found out during your doctor visits that what you were doing actually did make a difference.

Your results should provide encouragment for everyone wanting to do the same...
