2012 MLB O/URecord:13-18 (This will be turned around soon enough. That’s a promise)
2011 MLB O/URecord:366-270-42 (Proof and 27-Page Documentation Available Upon Request)
2-3 yesterday, although my best bet Delgado vs Rodriguez under 8 should’ve been at least a push, as it lost by a run thanks to four Houston errors that contributed to unearned runs, including the one in the ninth with two outs where an Atlanta runner scored thanks to a Chipper Jones SINGLE because two outfielders collided. Unbelieveable. Both starting pitchers pitched well enough for an under or a push so it was tough losing that one. But you move on to the next day,and here are my first few bets of the slate, as these are of the 1 o’clock variety. I’m just posting these now since it’s so close to gametime, and I’ll be back a bit after with the rest of my picks for the day.
Tampa Bay Rays @Detroit Tigers
Jeff Niemann vs Drew Smyly
OVER 9
This is a very interesting game. For one, it’s the finale of what has been a very hard-fought series between two teams who should be there right in the thick ofthings when all is said and done. After consecutive 4-2 outings in this series, with both teams splitting the pair, I believe this is the game where each offense breaks out, and that’s very possible against two vulnerable starting pitchers.
First,we have Jeff Niemann taking the mound on the road for his first start of the season. While positioned at the bottom of the rotation, Niemann is unquestionably one of the best No. 4 or No. 5 starting pitchers in all of baseball. He’s had stretches throughout his young career where he’s shown absolute flashes of dominance - streaks that go beyond a month - in which he’s even shut down top offenses. At the other end of the spectrum, he’s had streaks of erratic pitching where everyone was touching him. At the end of the day, Niemann is successful, as displayed in his first few years in the bigs where he always seems to win over ten games a year. In this spot, though, I can see the Detroit offense tagging him for at least a few runs as they find a way to breakout in this series.
Then there’s the most intriguing piece to this over/under, that being Tigers’ rookie Drew Smyly, who is making his Major League debut. It’s always unique when a guyis making the first start of his career, and while I do think Smyly will ultimately become a legit Major League starter, I believe this isn’t a great spot for him, entering playing against a dynamic Rays lineup that is ready toput some runs on the board, unlike the first two games of the series. Smyly’snumbers in Spring Training, which are apparently why he won the job, were good overall (.180 opposing batting average, 1.00 WHIP in 18 innings), but this is more so a vibe where I think he’s going to get hit a little hard in his first start. With new pitchers, that’s mostly what you have to act off of, and I seean over of 9 here, despite the seemingly high number for this matchup.
Other 4/12/12MLB Over/Under Bets I’m Taking (In Order)
Mat Latos vs Gio Gonzalez UNDER 7.5
**Will Add More Over/Unders Throughout Day Leading Up To Gametime**
