What classic movies would you like to see remade?

I know many out there are against any of the classics being remade. But there are a few that come to mind that I think could be interesting in the hands of the right filmakers and with today's technologies. A few that come to mind:

Creature from the Black Lagoon: This movie used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. Remake it, but keep the same creepy music from the original.

The Wizard of Oz: I know that many think this one shouldn't ever be touched. But I think somebody like a Spielberg or Tim Burton could do some neat things with this movie.

Apocalypse Now: Not the sequel, but the prequel. I would like to see the events that led up to Kurtz going renegade.

The Magnificent 7: Another one of my childhood favorites. If they remade Oceans 11, I don't see why they can't remake this one with an allstar cast.

The Birds: It wouldn't be easy topping Alfred Hitchcock. But with today's special effects, this movie could be very frightening.

I can think of a few more. But these come to mind first.

You're right some "old classics" should remain in their pristine condition. ME for instance!!:):)

This would be a cool prequel. One of my all-time favorites.

How about a remake of Quest for Fire? Great story, but the humanoid creatures could really use some modern special effects.

The original Evil Dead could use a re-boot. I watched it recently and it's kind of laughable.

Blade Runner still holds up, but would be nice to see a sequel.

On the Waterfront.

And a couple of movies that were'nt classics (in fact one was condidered a b movie) that probably could be better with modern technology would be "Death Race 2000" and "Dune" .

I just found this link of 50 different movies they plan to remake. Including the one you mentioned Evil Dead. I couldn't believe that they actually plan to remake two of the movies I wanted, Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Birds. I noticed that they also want to remake The Warriors. But I'm not real big on Hollywood trying to remake movies that were a product of their time or culture. So I'm not sure that movie will go over as well in modern times. Talk about a product of it's time, they also plan to remake Barbarella...ha!

I don't know why Spielberg didn't do this, but ET would be a sure hit as a sequel! What is he thinking?

I'd like to see a prequel to Apocolypse Now. How about another Godfather Pt 4?

He Walked By Night & Dial M For Murder: Not that these movies need to be remade as the originals are perfect. I think the younger generation has no idea that these great classics even exist and the only way to get them to watch them would be to remake them with more familiar actors and actresses.

There have been so many movies made over the last 100 years, that it's not easy coming up with entirely new fictional screenplays for movies without somebody coming forward accusing Hollywood of plagiarism. That's why many of the movies we see now are either based on true stories, or lifted from comic books. I still think there are a lot of old classics or near classics out there that could use a serious remake for modern times. I thought they did a good job with Oceans 11. The Coen brothers followed the book closer and improved upon True Grit. The Dark Knight was a killer update of the Batman series. Assault on Precinct 13 was MUCH better the second time around. The latest version of King Kong was much better with updated special effects than the two versions before it. The latest Star Trek was surprisenly good because it was a prequel. The updated version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers that had Donald Sutherland in it, was one of the best and creepiest remakes of a classic movie that I've seen. But there are also plenty of movies out there that shouldn't ever be touched because of their uniqueness or being the product of their times or culture. A few would be Star Wars, 2001, the classic gangster movies like the Godfather or Goodfellas, and any of the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns.
