Not looking for sympathy at all - this was Seymour - he was really something special - I dont have any kids so maybe he was extra special to me and I'm really hurt - it's awful to say but I love him more that than most in my family - picked this guy out as a puppy at the Miami pound - he was on his last day but I liked from first glance regardless of knowing he would be put down that evening if I did not take him home - he had a real personality and u can see it in this pic - he was just yelled out for sticking his paws out the window so u can see he is trying to act all prim and proper looking straight ahead - really hope I get to see him in another life because he touched mine in ways I could never express

I guess - about four weeks ago his spleen started bleeding and his stomach filled up one night - my ex took him to the 24 hour vet - they wanted to put him down but she opted for surgery - his liver and spleen were loaded with cancer and the said they cut it out - he came home and seemed to be doing good - three weeks later same thing happened but he was bleeding from his liver - I dont know if u consider cancer old age or not but he was 12

Sorry to hear Seymour. Nothing wrong with feeling that way about your dog. People get attached to their pets and many are considered part of the family.

I have put down lots of dogs, since I've had lots of dogs

My most sincere condolences, I am sure he loved you as much or more than you loved him

His look on the pic is "darn....alright, behaving now" :)

The "tough guys" in here will laugh at those of us posting in this thread, but most don't realize that one pet can be with you up to 1/4 - 1/3 of your life and you get attached to them just as you would anyone else.

They are family.....

I too am getting close to facing this as mine is about 16 yrs old and I can imagine what you're going through Seymour because I've already played it out in my head a few times.

It's like the movie Marley & Me only in real-life.

For those who have been through it.......... Does getting a new puppy/pet not long afterwards really help?

it depends on whether or not YOU are ready for it. Getting a new dog of course its not like getting a new car if you just crashed one. It needs your love and attention and you may /may not be ready for it

for all the dog people in this thread, if you do want a new dog, by all means get one from the pound, its amazing how many dogs are abandoned. I used to breed german shepherds when I was younger and after seeing what I have seen.....its impossible for me to even consider ever breeding another dog.

My last 4 dogs have all been mutts.

then again, if you are a dog person, once you walk into a pound your heart will immediately melt with any of the wonderful dogs in there ready for a master :) so....if you have lost one recently, take a look at the dogs waiting to be adopted

Thats the only terrible thing about dogs. You out live them unless something crazy happens or you get one when you're 95. Condolences, bro I've been there too and it sux. Hardest part for me was pulling in my driveway and being used to him running up to my truck and then him not being there.

Sorry to hear Seymour ! Pets are awsome and are a huge loss when they leave us.. My Golden Retriever is 11 so that day is coming and will be brokenhearted when it happens.. my cat is the best pet I have ever had and when its time for her to go, man don't even want to think about it..

Agree 100%. All of the animals I've ever owned I've rescued from the SPCA. There are plenty of animals to choose from who need a good home. It's such a shame that people don't neuter or spay their pets and they're so many unwanted animals around.

go buy you a nice frame and put one of your favorite pics in it and hang it in the house somwhere special!

sorry for your loss of a good dog and a special friend to you!

That pic of Seymour does say a lot. This is why it's hard to have pets, you usually out live them.

So sorry for your loss. What breed was Seymour? I'm a fan from the picture you posted.
