If the NHL eliminates fighting, what will that do to the television ratings? What will happen to the players who take advantage of the smaller players? What are your comments? Read an article about violence in the NHL during the current playoff campaign by going to the Rx home page at www.therx.com

Yes, the NHL should eliminate fighting. A lot of potentially great hockey players leave the game because they're expected to fight. It may be fun to watch, but it's not fun to participate in. It's especially disheartening for parents to watch their kid get pounded by a goon.

Have to agree with Holmes here. I used to love NHL fights, but not so much anymore. There's too many staged fighting in the NHL. Always was.

It's not a part of the game. If it was, they wouldn't stop the clock and kids would be learning how to scrap when they first lace up the skates.

That said, I do understand the appeal. Hockey has a hardcore following that love it when players drop the gloves. It's good old fashioned blood lust. However, I personally think it makes more sense to have organized fighting in an octagon or ring, not a rink.

I was talking to a friend about this the other day. Fighting is just part of the game, a natural pressure release valve for the heated passions of the players. Players who don't want to fight don't have to and I don't believe anyone thinks less of them, I know I don't. Before players were too macho for visors and now it's just accepted as being the smart thing to do to protect your eyes. The last thing we need is some committee of douche-bags getting together over the summer and changing more rules. Let fighting be a part of the game until the players decide to stop, let it live or die organically. Fighting is never going to be a deciding factor in whether or not you like hockey. Banning it will not hurt or help anyone's bottom line so leave it alone.

What would you think about a double-major for fighting instead of just a five-minute major? Spending 10 minutes in the penalty box and not being allowed on the ice no matter how many goals the opposition scores might help curtail fighting a bit more.

It is part of the game.If it wasn't you would be thrown out for doing it-not a 5 minute penalty. The high sticks,cross-checking,elbowing, boarding are the bad things about hockey. This comes from some one who used to play. These are the things that the true players hate

They polled 200 NHL players this year asking if they should ban fighting.

199 said no and 1 said yes.

So I'll listen to the experts instead of the arm chair quarterbacks and say hell no.

might as well change the name if you do. No one has to fight but letting the players police themselves is a good thing. They need to rid the instigator rule.

Fighting is a great part of hockey. Fans love it. Banning would be stupid.

I wonder how many people who love fighting in hockey have ever been in a hockey fight. Not many, I'm guessing. (Does anyone think Gary Bettman, clearly a proponent of fisticuffs, has ever dropped the gloves?)

We're starting to hear former goons like Georges Laraque come out of the closet and share how stressful it was to fight, not to mention dangerous. They hated it.

Ultimately, I think fighting prevents hockey from becoming what it could be. Nevertheless, I'll still watch the game whether fighting is eliminated or not. It's one of the most exciting sports you'll ever see, especially if you're able to see it live.

Fighting part of the game. Makes accountability.. Guy gets cheap shotted, someone going to answer.

Much better than the fake tough guys in the NBA.

Mmmmyeah,..This what I'm talking about. I've never dipsy-doodled a goaltender to score an overtime goal to win the cup but I love it when I see it, that's kinda what what watching pro-sports and being a fan is about (I don't think Bettman has either,...FIRED!).

As for George, the next thing we'll hear is that he's sueing the league because he's got PTSD from all his fighting days. Join the club George, I hate my job sometimes and it stresses me out. YOU GOT PAID TO PLAY HOCKEY!

I'm interested in hearing what you think hockey could become because you said it is one of the most exciting sports in the world. Are you suggesting that without fighting hockey would become THE most exciting sport in the world, loved and cherished by all humanity?

The NHL has been re-writing the rule book ever since the Devils won the Cup using the "boring" neutral zone trap. They need to stop with the knee jerk reactions everytime they get a little public criticism. How about no more rule changes for 10 years and let's watch the game evolve naturally.

if you continue to do what you have done, you will continue to get what you have got.

if hockey is happy being a sport that very very very few care about, watch, attend then they should keep the game as it is.

if hockey wants to become a more popular sport that earns more $ for it's players and owners, then they should change the game

one of the changes they would need to make/consider is the fighting apsect of the game.

the most popular sport in the US by far is football. Football doesn't allow it's players to stop in the middle of a game and roll around on the field punching each other.
