I won't name a number of 20th century bad do-ers, but seriously, why should they be in history books:think2:

Cause they're the losers, and the winners get to write it.

let's take a super minor example, madoff. he'll be in history for the next 50 yrs. I'm sure there will be bigger scams by then, however, an ethical, hard working investor who made many people money will only be kown by a few.

We all know that the only news that sells is bad news, so my question really is, will that ever change?

Evil people tend to make a much bigger impact than good ones, mother Theresa may have been great, but what impact did she make?

Or, to put it another way, name a good person today? Name a good leader, a good scientist, anyone, who is almost universally regarded as good? I can't think of one, Stephen hawking maybe, but alot of that is pity.

Just wanna say another thing. Stephen Hawking's works aren't something that the average person will understand or appreciate.

The whole premise that history focuses more on evil than good is not true either. Can't believe nobody has brought up Leonardo de Vinci. How about Ghandi? There are tons of people throughout history that are remember for good works.

human nature simple as that

if you see these two headlines, which one gets more of your emotions

"responsible father raises two kids, both become great people who bring a lot to the country"

or

"heartless criminal murders his two kids, then commits suicide"

Are brains are programmed to value negative news/information more than positive news/information. From what I've read, this is related to evolution. Negative news was a key to our survival. It was important to know that Bob got killed by a tiger in the nearby woods while he was looking for bananas. Nowadays, we don't have nearly as many threats, but our brains haven't evolved. So, we're still drawn to negative news/information. The media is well aware of this. That's why "if it bleeds its leads" is the old refrain in the newspaper business.

bottom line this is the answer.

if germany would have defeated the allies, our history books would look a lot different.

there is a line from the godfather, i'll paraphrase it here, but it is when Michael is telling his wife that his father is like a Senator or President, and she says "senators and presidents don't go around killing their enemies...."

winners create history

I don't think most people pity what is perhaps the most brilliant scientific mind of the 20th century. It is too bad he doesn't have another 50 years or so - I think he could probably come up the "theory of everything" that has eluded him for so long.

He's plenty brilliant, but I say if he was perfectly healthy, no one outside of scientific circles would know who he is.

I'm confused who you're referring to here. Do you mean the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus?

History (and current-events news) typically focuses on the outliers, since they're the exceptions that shake things up for good or for bad. A fund manager who makes an honest profit for his clients is doing just what they're supposed to be doing. A crook who lies, steals, bankrupts and changes perceptions of business and rules enforcements, that's something outside the norm and rightfully should be examined and studied.

I likey big questions!
@Holmes; you're right when you say "programmed" because that is exactly what the mainstream media is doing to you. Social programming is a well documented fact and they are telling you what to think, like and feel. You could be a good boy and take your medicine and STFU or you could turn off your TV and get your news from a thousand different sources online. Yeah I know the mouse ain't a remote and you have to sit upright so it does take more effort. I am not interested in leading bleeding stories I want the real news so I look for it and I'm not alone.
@wolfie_cr; I don't disagree with you that for most people, blood and guts is going to out click loving father today but I don't agree that the lasting impact of loving actions is trumped by violence in the long run. I believe it was RX poster Griffin who recently put up a story that drove this point home (something about a mobster and O'hare airport in Chicago).
@buddyboy; I think you should re-check your history book on what happened to the Nazi's after WWII, google "project paperclip" then take a look at the police state that the US is becoming. Winners apparently offer contracts to the best players of the losing team.
@Stephen Hawkings; let's be honest, the guy has nothing else to do but sit around and think all day. His unproven theories are nothing more than really cool science fiction and have nothing to do with our reality. If Stephen wants to impress me with his math skills and insights he needs to go 16-0 ATS Week 1 NFL.
