Wow. How do you follow up the worst day of your betting career, as I had on Friday? Well, with one of your best, of course. Going 8-0 in one day, as I did yesterday, for ANY kind of bettor is a very special accomplishment, especially when your best bet on the day was an under that ended up being a Perfect Game. Coincidentally, I had the perfect day as a gambler on the very same day. What are the odds of something like that occurring? In any case, you can’t continue to dwell on your success, much like if you have a bad day, you can’t dwell on that either. It’s just another day in the books and you move on. I’m going to be taking it easy today, as I’ve noticed I’m actually on pace to bet more games this year than the 678 I bet last year, so luckily, there’s really only two games that I acquired a significant vibe on. Plus, it’s best to just concede oncertain days and kind of ease up a bit, rather than forcing bets, and in turn, that’ll make you that much more hungrier for the following day, as I want to be for Monday’s slate, as Mondays are usually my best day of the week for some reason (Although this year, Saturday has been my best). Here’s what will probably be my only two bets of the day…

I'm still in the process of doing my write-up for my best bet today, which is Colby Lewis vs Drew Smyly OVER 9, but just posting this now so you guys have a chance to get it in. I'm risking $50 to win $45 on it.

And here's my write-up...

Texas Rangers @Detroit Tigers
Colby Lewis vs Drew Smyly
OVER 9

There’s something about this game that stood out to me, and it wasn’t just the pitching matchup. First of all, when I did my routine of looking at each pitching matchup individually, without looking at the lines, and breaking it down, this one caught my eye the most. But then when I saw the line, I was completely baffled why it was 9.5 (Before finally dropping to 9 right before gametime). I mean, an arguably inferior pitching matchup of Harrison vs Porcello drew a lower line yesterday, and both pitchers in today’s contest are out to fabulous starts, thus meaning Vegas must strongly be anticipating an over. In addition, one of them, Colby Lewis, has proven to be a legitimate top-rotation pitcher since returning to the Major Leagues a couple of years ago. To begin 2012, he’s gone at least six strong in all three of his starts, all of which were quality starts by the way, and overall, Lewis has registered a 1.83 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, to go along with 22 strikeouts in just under 20 innings of work, while only walking one! Oh, and he’s 2-0 as well. Wait, am I covering an over here? Yes I am, don’t worry, don’t worry. I mention all of that because Lewis, while he’s usually a steady, reliable pitcher, is due to succumb to the Law of Averages, especially heading into battle on the road against a tough offense like Detroit… the Tigers pounded him in two starts last year (7.1 IP, 20 hits, 4 walks, 13 earned runs, 5 homeruns allowed! EW). Yeah, that will definitely stand out.

Our most dependable factor for this over will be the opposing hurler, Tigers’ rookie Drew Smyly. Thus far in his brief Major League career, Smyly has actually looked impressive over two starts - he’s only given up one run over ten innings - against solid lineups, that being Kansas City and Detroit. But again, I’m banking on the Law of Averages for his production to begin to norm abit, especially since from watching Smyly, he’s really not that overpowering. He looks like a pretty hittable pitcher, and while I do think he’s got a fine career ahead of him in the bigs, I think he returns to earth a bit in this start today against the best offense in baseball in the final game of ahard-fought series. If you're not able to overpower the Rangers and keep their hitters at bay, you could be in for a long day. Let’s get this over.

Nice start, as we got the homerun from Hambone in the first. Hopefully the Tigers can continue their domination of Lewis from last year, as the bottom of the first is now underway.

*Kansas City and Tampa Bay, I mean. Smyly obviously did not face his own team within his first two starts of his career.

Second, and probably final, over/under bet for the day...

Wei-Yin Chen vs Dan Haren UNDER 8 - $24 for $20

Now let's get some more runs in Lewis vs Smyly. Would like to extend this season-high winning streak to 9, and hopefully ultimately, 10.
