You continue to prove to everyone that you are a complete idiot.

Did you even actually read the article?

"While there's strong demand in science, education and health fields, arts and humanities flounder."

There are a couple factors at play here:

#1. We are in an economic shit-hole due to the policies of Barrack Obama and his minions

#2. Don't get a degree in sociology, psychology, art history... and expect to be working somewhere other than Burger King
when you graduate

I am not left or right, don't give a shit about either party, but objectively, the economcy was in the tank before BO showed up. Now, with that being said, he has done nothing to help the situation.

There are opportunites available - they just aren't handed to you on a silver platter.

I double majored in English and History - however, unlike most of the people I was in school with, I had a completely different plan from them. My degree is my back-up...if my business fails or I get disabled I have always been interested in going into teaching. My degree will give me the chance to do that if I so chose. Now, with that being said, I would of never majored in the "arts" had I been dependent on my degree to find a "good" job. You want decent pay when you graduate? Get an engineering degree. If you don't want to go to college - then fine.

Find a job in a trade or something (anything but fast food or Walmart) and put everything you have into learning said trade. If you are smart you can get all the licenses you will need to go into business for yourself in 6-8 years. If you don't want to go into business for yourself you can still get a good paying job pretty easily. There is a huge demand for master plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, but yet people ignore these fields. I am not sure where else a guy that doesn't have a degree can clear a thousand bucks in a good day. The problem is everyone expects to be handed this on a silver platter. To be successful you have to work your ass off everyday 70-80 hours a week. I have an apprentice who will not work more than 40 a week and won't work weekends. He complains about not having enough money for the week, but I give him the opprotunity to work as much overtime as he wants yet he doesn't take it. This is what is wrong. Laziness and an attitude of entitlement.

Those who pass on a college education do so at their own peril, especially as we evolve into a more high-tech, information economy:
The Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) analyzes employee earnings data biennially, according to education level. Findings indicate that workers with a college degree earn significantly more than those without. Since the mid-1980s, education has played a large part in potential wages, with bachelor's degree holders taking home an average of 38% more than those with only a high school diploma. While college-educated workers' wages have increased over the past two decades, those with only a high school education have seen decreases in annual salaries in the same time period (nces.ed.gov).

I'm a I/T operations analyst by trade, it's gotten pretty much to the point where if you are computer illiterate, you can pretty much count on flipping burgers, at best for a career.

these government guaranteed student loans need to be looked at.

for example:

if you want a loan to get a degree in engineering, then the government should guarantee the max amount.

if the same student wants a degree in Drama, then I can't see the taxpayers backing that loan for the same amount.

re title the article to read: 1/2 of new grads have useless degrees, government still promises to make good on their loans

undergrad degree in exercise science here...at this point, i'm looking at a job as a physiologist in a wellness center. however, heading to chiropractic school in florida. i feel like my degree is just one that propels you into further schooling or it's merely just a glorified personal training degree. i knew that going in, though. a lot of my friends have teaching degrees and it's hell finding a job for them. almost seems like if you don't go get your masters, you are still struggling to find a job. unless you're a savvy business person and can start a business.

He (Obama) did not make the mess, but he didn't do anything to make things better, and gridlock in Washington is not the reason.

IMO self smarted is the way to go.

By the time my grade school buddies had their grade tens, I was out on my own, and had my own grocery cart reclamation business going strong.

It's pretty simple...

If you have a degree you know you need one to obtain, maintain and compete for high-paying jobs that enable you to be eligible for promotions to the top of the ladder.

If you don't have a degree you think they are useless.

I fall into the first category. Not to say you can't succeed and thrive without one.

I'd bet Zit is a nice guy in "real life".

Although I usually see eye to eye with him on many of his viewpoints, I agree that he sure is a dickhead.

Which is interesting to me. Nobody is perfect. I myself am far from it.

But for someone who has gone out of their way to defend Christianity, he sure does his best to turn people off from the message by being an ass.

As a wise man once said... Many times its not what you say, its how you say it....

gtc08 has a long history of posting really stupid shit on here.

Yeah, you're right I need to be more patient, and less of an asshole.

Criticism taken.
