Need Advice on Reno/Lake Tahoe

I'm attending a bachelor party on South Lake Tahoe, California in Sept.

We've got a group of 15-20 guys that are renting a house on the lake.

I'd like to spend some time playing blackjack and poker at the casinos in
the area. How do the casinos in the South Lake Tahoe area compare to
the ones in Reno? Is it worth the hour drive to Reno to check out the games
there?

Any recommendations in the area for must-see or must-do?

It's my first trip to the area, so any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

reno is a shithole, stay at lake tahoe.i could not believe the difference in both places.lake tahoe is beautiful, nice casino's and safer as far as watching your back.reno is not a nice place to be at night for sure and its dirty, save yourself some grief and stay up on the lake

Reno is a shit hole? um, that may be an under statement - do not go - Lake Tahoe is gorgeous - one of the most beautiful places in the US - u need to rent a boat and cruise the Lake all day - drive past Michael Corleone's house - see where Fredo rests

tahoe's great, if you do go to Reno, I'd go to the Peppermill or Atlantis which is not part of downtown. Down town isn't really unsafe, but you have your homeless people there. I suggest going out to Virginia City, which is about the same distance as Reno. A lot of History out there. Mark Twain lived there and there's a museum there, plus all the gambling.

Tahoe is an awesome place...for couples. That place isn't really set up for 20 single dudes. I've been a few times.
I went last March, and I remember 6-5 bj and single decks running rampant all over the town.
Harrrah's is the place to be.
I've never played in Reno, but if you guys are "serious" about trying to hit a casino hard-I would suggest you go back to Reno.

In Tahoe you can play at Harrah's/Harvey's (infested with 6/5), Lakeside (only two, if not just one table available) or Montbleu. If your focus is on blackjack, head to Reno. Casino Fandango in Carson City and Carson Valley Inn in Minden might have good games available.

Thanks for the info guys.

I refuse to play 6/5 blackjack, so it looks like I might be
headed to Reno.

Lake Tahoe is beutiful place to visit. Harrah's is the nicest Casino in Tahoe with their upper floor Suites nothing short of awesome. Show some $$ at check in and ask if they have any upgrades available. Then dine at their top floor Friday's Steak House and you will be blown away ! Have fun !

On the weekends all the scumbags from the bay area are downtown, otherwise downtown is okay. Peppermill is the only 5 star resort in Reno, it's in south reno right off the 395. No 6-5 there, you'll see a lot of that in down town too. Peppermill has single deck, double deck, and shoe games. Get a players card there they will comp you better than any place in town, (including sports bets) Their sports book is the best in town too.

Is the Peppermill an independent Sportsbook or are they affiliated with one of the bigger Books ?

They are independent, which is awesome, they get all the local square action in town because of the way they comp, which makes finding value there pretty easy.

Nice ! I was there about 10 months ago and the place is for sure the nicest place in Reno. I played a little video poker there so they must have some decent paying machines there. I'm getting mailers every month for free rooms so I certainly believe you that they are pretty generous with comps etc.

should gamble/enjoy lake for a couple days and rent a car and party in SF for the real bachelor night out where you get shitfaced with actual women around

San Fransisco? That's 200 miles away? Although, not a bad thought. I haven't been to SF since I was a kid, and will consider flying out early to spend some time there.

it's a drive away but if you pack guys into a couple rentals, could prob. stay out there on the cheap, September tends to be a pretty decent time to go out there, just don't expect good sports bars like you'll get in other major cities if you're wanting to post up and watch the games, but good eats and bars and what not. let me know if you come out early and want to grab a beer.

Sounds good Dsethi, so you're in San Fran?

I'm actually now looking into flying into Portland the weekend before to see a buddy there, and he says it's only a 9 hour drive from his house (Bandon) to Lake Tahoe.

Lake tahoe is stunningly beautiful. If you have time, there is a road that goes all the way around the lake. When you view it from up high, it is a deep emerald color. There is actually a very cool casino in the lake tahoe hyatt, I believe was a really cool place to gamble. The resort sits right on the lake itself with a nice steakhouse, beach right on the property, etc. Enjoy!

Have you ever been to Crater Lake in Oregon? I can't imagine a prettier lake
than that...

Fester, actually no, I have not yet been but heard a lot about it. I'm sure both are different and beautiful in their own way. Definitely an interesting destination for a bachelor party. Plenty of fun/trouble to get into but try to get out and make a trip around the lake or take a boat ride on the lake if its a nice day as seymour suggests. Missing out on a sunset in LV bc you are barreled in at a BJ table is no big deal but you really should not miss some of the sights around Tahoe. One of the Top 10 spots to see in the US as far as I am concerned for at least 3-4 days. Let us know what you think!

Bump.

I can't even remember why, but I never made it out to Reno/Tahoe but am looking to book a vacation there (with the wife) in June.

Any updates to the thread?

I haven't been to Tahoe/Reno since NYE 2012/13. I went for 14 straight years. Love the place. I heard they had a dry winter on the ski slopes, which is a shame. I prefer the North Shore of Tahoe, but the South Shore has the bigger casinos and better nightlife.

I've always stayed inside the casinos when I'm in Reno, so it's never been too bad. Circus, Silver Legacy, and El Dorado are all connected (or they used to be), so that's convenient.

Reno is a great town as far as access to outdoor activities.....but the downtown has fallen apart. There used to be a ton of casinos there, now the downtown is all rundown and boarded up.
