I actually was going to post today about this subject... ESPN magazing had Mayweather on the cover.. great story inside about his life... but basically, he built his own empire.. he was one of the first to eliminate the promoter and tell them what he would make instead of visa versa.. In his fights, he controls EVERYTHING. tickets prices at MGM, PPV prices, he has a strong say in all of it.

In fact, they said that the Boxing 24/7 HBO thing was his orginially idea. that's good stuff.. much respect for mayweather after that. One of the few celebrities i would like to hang out with.

32 million plus ppv money? I don't know anyone that cares or who is watching his fight this weekend. But I know plenty that will be watching UFC on Fox Saturday and those guys (the headliners) will be in the $150,000 range.

I didn't even realize this fight was happening until a few days ago.

plus last i read, UFC's Dana White follows more of WWE Vince McMahon's business model... no insurance, low price for most fighters... UFC is obviously doing something right although I believe they should be paid 5-10x more

Lot more people cared about that fight than UFC.

Still not sure who "pays" for all this crap though.

This was one of the few fights I went out of my way to see this year. Went to a bar to watch for $5. Bar was pretty much packed.

Mayweather is the best boxer in the world today and his arrogant, bully-like behavior outside of the ring has turned him into the bad guy that people would love to see get beaten. This is part of the reason why he still draws a big audience and makes the huge bucks.

Also, Cotto is a talented fight who was the WBA Super World light middleweight title, having beaten Antonio Margarito and Ricardo Mayorga.

I thought Cotto fought a great fight and gave him everything he had. It certainly wasn't an easy night for Pretty Boy Floyd, whose nose was busted up and bleeding throughout much of the fight.

Overall, it was one of the better fights I've seen in awhile.

I agree on Boxing over UFC. Not as large a gap as in the past, but still more relevant.

I wondered the same thing, Mayweather will net almost 50 million from this fight, again the gate and PPV was that much? Sponsors? Amazing...
