VP's Diamond picks : 5/7/12 (YTD: 13-9-1; +5.3 units)

After a rough start, I'm finally getting back on track with 4 straight days of plus money and a 3-0 tally yesterday. There are a few games that I'm looking at today, but only one play thus far. I might add on later.

Angels -1.5 (-105) (2 Units)
If the Angels hadn't traveled LA to Minnesota in the last 20 hours, this would be a larger bet for me. Weaver is coming off of a no-hitter against the same lineup he is facing today, and has been pitching lights out all season (1.61 ERA). It also helps that Pujols cracked his first homer yesterday, so I expect him to bring some confidence to the plate in the next few games. Also, the Twins are sending Liriano to the mound today. I can't think of a more miss-matched pitching card. Liriano is god awful this season 9.97 ERA (9.95 in last three starts) and has a career 7.48 ERA against the pre-Pujols Angels. I expect the Angels to win this convincingly. If they hadn't traveled, this would be a 4 unit play.

Marlins/Astros under 7.5 (3 Units)
Two hot pitchers in a center-deep ballpark. Zambrano has yet to see his first win as a Miami Marlin. He very well could get it here, but he'll need to continue his recent for to do so. Z man has a 1.80 ERA in his last 3 starts, and in his career against the Astros he holds a 2.69 ERA (against some much better Houston lineups I might add). Although Z has been hot as of late, that can't discredit the streak that Wandy Rodriguez is on.. How can someone with a 1.64 ERA be barely above .500 on record?? No run support is how. In his last 3 starts he has a 1.35 ERA, and won all three decisions. Both guys coming in on a hot streak and two dull lineups, I don't know what the oddsmakers were thinking putting 7.5 on the board.
