imo so much better then going to a typical gym and doing the same old weight machines that everyone does. I got so tired of going to the gym and watching all the guys walking around with their imaginary lats. crossfit is total fitness and finally its becomming more mainstream.
it's also a good way to overtrain, with most of the workouts it provides. don't get me wrong, some of it is nice and i've put clients through hell and back with it. i also tweaked it a lot. if you want to get active, go exercise. use it as prevention, otherwise you'll be heading to a wellness facility everyday just to maintain normal function.
I don't know what to tell you except I've been doing it for years and have never had a problem. Do you need to know what youre doing, umm yes. Are some of the workouts insanely hard, yes again. But I've never been in better shape in my life and I played college sports. I get what youre saying to an extent. Youre doing alot of olympic weight lifting movements and for high reps and as fast as possible sometimes. obviously, when you do that you need to be careful not to let your technique suffer or you can get hurt.
I get it, its simply to hard for alot of people so they say oh i dont like it. or it doesn't work. But when done correctly you'll be in better shape without question. Sure, there are other ways to get in shape but this works for me. And i like the fact that most of the time my workout is done in 20 minutes or less. I don't have the time nor the desire to spend 2 hours in a gym.

So far I've started golfing, but it's been hard to find other people interested, who don't mind my beginner status.
I've been playing tennis weekly, but really was trying to play a 3 times a week. My wife likes to play, but she is just so bad that is boring for me, plus its very little exercise playing with her... She likes to go hiking once a week, I live close to the Appalachian mountains so plenty of trails near by. But I found that boring and pointless.
I find it hard for both us to do things together that are active.
We FINALLLYYY have a 24 hour gym so i've been going to that after working my shift here if I didn't do anything active that day. I've been surprised how much I've enjoyed that.
I hope it takes some of this weight off but I've definitely enjoyed getting out more. And thus far my handicapping has not been affected.
There's not one reason for a person to do repetitions as fast as they can. There simply is no reason to do that. Fast repetitions are not working the muscle group period. It's funny, last year where I worked out they were doing crossfit each day and each instructor was overweight. That was the running joke.
